REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS

Lockheed Martin's Workplace Security policy, CPS-565 is strictly enforced. One provision of the policy is a workplace free of weapons, which includes Firearms, Ammunition, Bows and Arrows. The club must emphasize this policy to our members. Additionally, a state issued CCW permit does not supersede nor over ride this LMA policy.

Members wanting to store firearms or archery equipment during the day ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (1-1531) or Dave Mulholland (7-3674) for access instructions.

300 YARD RANGE TEMPORARY CLOSURE

The Club has been informed by management that the dirt mound, north of the 200/300 yard range will be actively worked for the next 6 weeks, at least. The Board is therefore taking the following steps to ensure no conflicts with club usage. The 300-yard gongs will be removed until this activity is completed. Shooting at the 300 yard target stands will be posted as "closed" until this ends also. Several signs will be posted at the 200/300 yard benches on Friday morning at the CMP match stating the closure. Members should not be concerned about traffic to and from the dirt pile, and it is PROHIBITED to take advantage of the open gate to gain access to either the main plant or the range. The electronic gate will be in the up position to allow truck access to the dirt pile. Please continue to swipe your badge even when the gate is in the up position. Severe penalties from the company and club could result from violating this access. When the activity is over, the restrictions on the 300-yard range will be lifted by an announcement. Usage of and shooting at the 200-yard range is not affected. Law Enforcement will be informed through Plant Protection and this notification.

NEW PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Skyline HFC will be kicking off the 2008 club year (the club’s 50th) at the next member’s meeting, March 10th. I encourage club members to come and meet your new club officers and share your suggestions and recommendations for club priorities for the coming year. The Board will be discussing initial budget plans for the year.

SHFC FFL SUSPENDED

All firearms transactions through Skyline's FFL have been indefinitely suspended. All firearms transfers are prohibited until further notice.

Electronic Gate

Per the SHFC Range Rules, each club member is required to "wand" their electronic gate card at the electronic gate for accountability. This will also reset the arms timer so it doesn’t come down on your vehicle. Upon leaving the range, each person should push the gate open button so the arms timer is reset so it doesn’t come down on your vehicle on the way out.

Alternative to Electronic Gate

As a result of further instances where the electronic gate has been damaged, the club will use the manual gate that is located just past the electric one (in bound) as a backup. The combination lock on that gate will be the same as the former SHFC lock on the front gate (The number on your badge). The club member is still required to "wand" their electronic gate card at the electronic gate for accountability. Signs are being placed that will Caution personnel approaching the gate(s). The first one to the range opens the gate, the last one out locks the gate.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Complete Membership renewal instructions are posted on the SHFC website: Click on Membership

The revised 2008 Range Rules are also posted on the website for your use with the Safety Exam.

In summary:

Membership Renewal for 2008 requires three items to be submitted by you:

1. Completed and signed 2008 Safety Exam

2. Completed and signed 2008 Release form (Last page of Safety Exam)*.

3. Dues check made out to SHFC in the amount of:

A. $72.00 standard renewal dues

B. $36.00 renewal dues for members with work bond credit

C. $0.00 dues required for Honorary Life Members

Please mail these three documents to:

Steve Choromanski Tony Christensen

V4912 16072 Parkside Drive

Ph # 303-971-7172 Parker, CO 80134

Or bring them to the March club meeting.

Badges may be picked up starting about 4:00 pm in the LM recreation area clubhouse prior to the SHFC General Membership Meeting on March 10, 2008 or at the pick up sessions listed below.

If you wish your 2008 badge return mailed to you, please include a stamped, self addressed envelope.

*As a condition of membership, you are required to sign an indemnification form. Signing this form does not remove you from using the facility responsibly. What it does is secure the Board of Directors, their Agents, and Lockheed Martin Corporation from lawsuits caused or related to improper use. Basically this helps to eliminate opportunistic lawyers from suing the club or LMC.

2008 SHFC Badge pick up sessions are:

3 March 2008 between 2:30 and 5:30 pm

10 March 2008 starting at 4:00 pm prior to the club meeting

Both sessions will be held at the LMA recreation area clubhouse.

ARCHERY 2008

HR VP, Rich Kludt, has given SHFC a verbal OK to proceed with the Archery game management hunt on LMSSC property for 2008. So everyone can go ahead and apply if desired - deadline April 1.

However there will be a few changes from past years

-Certain areas open in the past on the west side of the property & probably including the test stands on PJKS will be off limits due to a new program testing rqmts. The boundaries and final approval letter will be coordinated with Chuck Kocher in the next few weeks.

-The definition of immediate family has been changed to include spouse, child, grandchild, parent, and sibling. No in laws, nephews, uncles, etc will be allowed. This was approved by the SHFC board and concurred with by HR.

-Only personnel who are SHFC members in good standing effective April 1 2008 will be allowed to archery hunt the LMSSC property during the 2008 season - this was approved by SHFC Board and concurred with by HR.

-Anyone wanting to archery hunt the 2008 season must complete 4 hrs of 2008 work bond (any committee type) prior to obtaining a 2008 permit - this was approved by SHFC Board.

All other requirements remain the same

-Must attend the safety/security briefing

-SHFC members or immediate family

-Be in possession of a valid DOW license

-etc

Some of these changes were incorporated to ensure all individuals wanting to archery hunt on LMSSC property had a vested interest in the club and appreciated the privilege of being allowed to archery hunt on the LMSSC property & have earned that privilege via workbond service to SHFC. No more just paying your dues and going hunting without putting in some sweat equity.

Anyone who has a problem with any of these groundrules are invited to talk to the Board at the next board meeting.

It is strongly advised to not take any personal issues regarding these new groundrules to legal, recreation, security, HR, etc unless it has been pre-coordinated/approved by the SHFC Board.

We are VERY FORTUNATE (considering some of the events happening this past year) to get the OK and all SHFC members need to follow all rules and regulations and work thru the Board any issues they may have regarding the new groundrules.

HR has established the game management permit boundary lines for 2008. Basically, almost all of the old PJKS (test stand area) area and all of the area near the IRF, FAB, and LSTTB will now be off limits.

Copies of the new boundaries will be distributed at the annual safety/security briefing in July & August. If you have any questions, please call me for more detail.

The new boundaries are not up for negotiation. There is NO appeal process associated with this. These new boundaries were established due to a new program and the testing associated with it.

3-Gun MATCH

The next 3-Gun shoot will be on Saturday, 29 March 2008 in the Pistol House. The shoot will start at 09:00 am and run to about 1:00 pm. Course setup starts around 08:00 am. For those new to 3-gun, it is similar to our Wednesday night practical pistol except we shoot the pistol, shotgun and semi-auto carbine/rifle for a combination of accuracy and speed. Ammo requirement is roughly 30 rounds of pistol, 100 rounds of rifle, 50 rounds of shot gun (mostly birdshot and occasionally 10 rounds of slug and buckshot).

HIGH POWER RIFLE (Service/Match Rifle/CMP)

The 2008 High Power season is getting rolling, as evidenced by better weather for the February matches, and an increase in participation and new competitors. At the match on 22 February, we had four first-time High Power competitors, two of whom had to share a club rifle and were only able to shoot half the match each.

The 2008 High Power schedule is posted on the SHFC website, and there are many opportunities to compete in High Power (Service Rifle and Match Rifle) as well as Garand matches, “Any/Any” matches, full-bore, etc.

There are also clinics scheduled for the novice to intermediate High Power shooter. The first one, a comprehensive one-day clinic on 5 April, goes through all aspects of High Power competition, and what to expect at matches. Various instructors, who are Masters, High Masters and Distinguished Riflemen, demonstrate proper position; discuss equipment requirements and use, training, and mental preparation for competition. Classroom instruction is reinforced by live fire and individual coaching at Boulder Rifle Club’s 200-yard range (in case of inclement weather, they substitute dry-firing at the indoor range). The clinic will be held at BRC on Boulder's north side, Saturday April 5th. For more details, please e-mail Mike Walton at bigbadgerboy@

High Power matches are conducted every off-Friday, finishing by noon or 1 PM. We welcome all types of high power service or match rifles; some choose to shoot the Garand or M1A but the AR15 is the choice of most. The club has two AR15s, and a spotting scope with stand which are available to use during matches.

Below are results from recent Skyline High Power matches:

Vintage High Power News

Spruce up your Springfields, Grease up those Garands, Clean up your Carbines and Primp up them P-17’s. It’s Vintage service rifle match time at SHFC.

In addition to our regular 80 round high-power match, we will be holding more Vintage service rifle matches on selected “off” Fridays and Special Saturday shoots (for those who can’t make an Off-Friday).

This is a popular venue for those out there who have access to these magnificent (well, maybe not the Carbine) pieces of history and want to experience shooting as it was in the day. Yes, we’re talking “sewer pipes” here. A bullet 3 times the weight of that fired in the modern “Mattel” and the power behind it to give ‘em, well… err… heck!

We’ll follow the John Garand Match, course B which is a 50 round match with 5 sighting shots as shown below, however in reverse order so as to be consistant with our regular high-power match.

[pic]

We welcome other WWI and WWII service rifles such as Mauser’s, Mosin-Nagant’s, K-31’s, etc. as well as the more modern M1A, AR15, SKS, and AK service rifles. Rifles should be in “as-issued” condition and modifications to the original issued condition or rifles utilizing telescopes, even if historically accurate, will not be eligible for awards.

The SHFC will classify shooters as to type of rifle (bolt or semi-automatic) and to era (WWI / WWII, Korea / Vietnam) and award pins for high scores in class.

Our goal is to hold a Vintage service rifle match on a regular basis of about one every 2 months.

OK, you sad sacks, it’s time to let your Garands do your talking.

The first Vintage service Rifle match for 2008 will be held on Friday, March 21 at the 200 yard range.

YOUTH SHOOTING SPORTS PROGRAM

SHFC will once again be offering a youth shooting sports program this year. This will consist of Firearm Safety Training, Small Bore Rifle, High Power Rifle, Shotgun, and Muzzle Loading. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, all the accessories (bayonet and scabbard, leather bayonet belt hanger, leather sling & keepers, leather ammo pouches, field cleaning kit, original box), owners manuals and is better than 98%. All the serial numbers match. I’ve put 378 rounds through it and it’s an excellent shooter; sub 2 MOA with scope, 2-4 MOA with issue sights – all with military ball ammo. Headspace is good. Bore is good, but still an excellent shooter; lands are bright and sharp with some minor pitting in grooves. It cleans up easily and seems to have gotten smoother the more I shot it.
