Description:Introduction: Background to the project, organisers and funding streams. The Edible Garden Project is managed by Novas and will be delivered under the Clare Children and Young Peoples Services Committed (CYPSC) and is outlined in the CYPSC Plan 2019 – 2021. The Edible Garden (with contemplative space and play area) meets a range of physical and emotional needs of the residents. It will provide access to home-grown nutritious food, space to prepare and cook meals and trained staff to develop resident’s capacity to prepare inexpensive family meals. Both the gardening and cooking aspects (which will be supported by the HSE and Novas staff) of the project provide a therapeutic intervention for families who have experienced significant trauma due to their homeless state. The reflective space and kid’s areas incorporated into the design will further enhance recovery of residents. Project Brief: Novas and CYPSC are seeking to develop an Edible Garden for residents of the Ennis Family Hub. The residents of the hub are homeless, all previously living in hotels and B&B accommodation, without any outdoor space. The purpose of the proposed garden is multi-faceted. In the first instance, we want to create a multi-functioning outdoor space, which the hub residents have ownership in designing and creating. The space will provide an edible garden, a quiet and reflective space and a kid’s area with playground and fairy garden. The children will be central to the garden design. The project aims to provide an opportunity for clients to grow their own food and make healthy, inexpensive meals from this food. It affords the opportunity to build confidence and life-skills as well as providing a therapeutic intervention for parents and children who have experienced trauma due to their homelessness. The project will be supported by the HSE Health Promotion Cook It programme, which will run simultaneously in the service and will be facilitated by the H.S.E Health Promotion Service.*Overall Project Manager Budget: €9,000 (inclusive of VAT if applicable) All transport costs to the site must be covered by the applicant themselvesProject Objectives/Scope of the Work:1.
