Children's School

Welcome to the Infant Room for the 2017-2018 school year. This is an exciting time for both you and your child. We are very excited to get to know you and your child this year. Our classroom is designed to make your child feel loved, cared for, and secure. The schedule in the Infant room is a flexible one, which allows all three teachers to spend time with each child, and to make your child feel at home in the classroom. 6600825248031000Each day you will be greeted by a teacher and asked to fill out the top part of your child’s Daily Report. This allows us to know how your child’s night went and what we may need to know for the day. The teachers will fill out a Daily Report each day that will explain diaper changes, food eaten, naptimes, and activities throughout that day. The Infant room teachers will send home crib sheets, blankets, stuffed toys, and pacifiers every week to be cleaned. Snacks will be provided when your child is developmentally ready. Examples of some snacks are fresh fruit, crackers, cereal, muffins, cookies, goldfish, yogurt, etc. Important InformationEverything must be labeled with your child’s name or initials. This includes all bottles, lids, clothes, blankets, food, ointments, packs of diapers, pacifiers, etc.Your child will participate in an outdoor activity daily with weather permitting. Please make sure that your child has weather appropriate clothing. Daily Reports contain information about your child’s feedings, diapers changes, activities, and temperaments that occurred throughout the day. Also will list items you may need to bring in for the next day that your child is running low on.The Infant Room has a “no shoes” policy which helps to maintain a clean environment for our crawling babies. The Infant will participate in Music and Tumble Tots starting every week in January 2016.The Infants will be participating in circle time on a daily basis. During this time the infants will sing songs, use props, and read a short story.Bottles will be warmed in a crock pot to prevent hot spots. We will clean hard toys every day to prevent the spread of germs. To help the babies fall asleep we will rock, pat, and cuddle them. The nursery practices the back to sleep rule of The American Association of Pediatrics (AAP). Once the babies are asleep they will be placed onto their back in their cribs. Once they are able to roll from front to back and back to front we will let them roll to their tummies independently to sleep. According to the American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) placing babies to sleep on their backs rather than tummies has been associated with a decrease in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome(SIDS)Thank you for trusting us with the care of your child. Remember, one way to ensure the best relationship between you and your child’s teacher will be to keep the lines of communication lines open. Feel free to call us anytime or approach us with any concerns.Early dismissal Dates for Staff Meeting/Professional DevelopmentMonday, October 9 2017 at 4:30Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 3:00Friday, December 15, 2017 at 4:30Monday, January 15, 2018 at 4:30Monday, March 12, 2018 at 4:30Themes for the School Year!September- Back to schoolOctober/November- Fall3882390114046000December- Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa January – Winter/ President DayFebruary- Valentine Day/Black History MonthMarch- St Patrick’s Day April- SpringMay- Mother’s DayJune- Fathers Day/Summer(May be subject to change) Some areas of development we will be working on this year!Large Muscle Control (rolling crawling, reaching and pulling)Small Muscle Control (grasping ,holding and manipulating )Auditory/Visual Skills (following objects with eyes for a short distance and turning towards sounds)Development of Verbal Skills (babbling ,imitation, and encouragement of natural curiosity) Things to bring to the NurseryA general schedule that reflects your child’s eating and sleeping routine Several changes of weather appropriate clothing Two Crib sheets One container of Tylenol / Motrin etcOne extra can of formula or breast milk if you breastfeed. Meet the Infant Room Teachers! My name is Allison Kolody and I will be leading the infant room for the 2017 – 2018 school year. This will be my tenth year at the Children’s School with five years in the pre-kindergarten classroom and two years in the toddler classroom. I starting my fourth year in the Infant classroom and I really enjoy this age group. In 2006 I graduated from Neumann University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood / Elementary Education. It may interest you to know that I have two children. Christopher is in entering 2nd Grade and Hunter is entering in the Pre-K classroom. I would like to thank you for intrusting your child into my care this year as I am looking forward to a wonderful, fun-filled and educational year ahead.I once read the saying “make your classroom your children’s home,” and I believe this saying to be absolutely necessary in order to give the children the ability to grow, learn, and reach for the stars. I believe that children bring the best out in people and as a teacher I know my class brings the best out in me by making me strive to be the best I can be. I believe that every child brings a special and unique piece of the puzzle to our classroom and our job as teachers is to find the correct spot for that piece. My name is Martha Whitlock Kolios, and I’ve been working with Infants and Toddlers in a daycare setting for close to twenty years. I have a master in teaching ESL from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and worked for three years teaching adult classes. It was only after my children were older that I realized how much I enjoy helping the little ones explore and understand their world. I have two children, one husband, and a cat. Hi! My name is Kristine De Mansana, I have been working in Preschool setting for nine years. I have worked with kids from infants to three year olds. I am currently in school for Early Childhood Education and Psychology degree at Delaware County Community College. I truly enjoy working in the Infant Room and helping the children explore and grow into their full potential as toddlers. Ever since I moved from the Philippines in 2002, I have been involved in different activities and camps that interact mainly with children under the age of five. I am looking forward to meeting you and your child and helping them grow this year.Welcome to the Infant Room 2017- 2018 ................
