Getting started with (e-Ink) eReaders

You can borrow eBooks from your library and transfer them to your eReader (Kobo, Nook, Sony, Kindle is not supported) using the free Adobe Digital Editions software on your Windows or Mac computer.

Before you can get started you must have already:

1. Have a Smart library card with a password

2. setup your eReader on your home PC or laptop by Installing the software that came with it

3. Created an account with the manufacturer and registered your device.

Step 1

On your computer open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome or Safari for (Mac) and go to or Google search: epukapuka and click the first link that pops up in the search results.

Scroll to the bottom of the page then click on applications

Click on Adobe Digital Editions

Click on Download.

Choose the correct version for your computer (Windows or Mac). Click on the download link

Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.

Adobe Digital Editions will start once the installation has completed. Click on Help then Authorize computer

If you already have an Adobe ID type in your ID and Password then click Authorise

If you don’t have one click Create an Adobe ID then fill in the form to create an Adobe ID, type in your email address, make up a password and enter it twice, enter your first and last name and choose your country then click create

Once that’s done, go back to Adobe Digital Editions and enter your ID and password then click Authorise

Close Adobe Digital Editions

Step 5

Turn on your eReader and plug the small end of USB cable it came with into the bottom of your eReader

Plug the other end of the cable into a spare USB port on your computer

On your eReader screen - click on connect, then on your computer screen: re-open Adobe Digital Editions.Your eReader should now be showing on the left side of the Adobe Digital Editions screen. Leave Adobe Digital Editions open

Step 6

Next on your computer open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome)

Google search: epukapuka

Click on the link to go to epukapuka website

Step 7

Once the Epukapuka webpage loads, click on Sign in

Click the drop down arrow and choose your Library (Kapiti Coast District libraries)

Step 8

Type in your Smart Library card number ( found on back of library card under the bar code)

Then type in your password and click sign in

Choose a category eg: eBook Fiction – All Fiction, or you can use the Search box

To see only available titles click - Available now

Choose a title and click on Borrow

Step 11

Click on download (EPUB eBook) this is the most common type

Step 12

Go back to Adobe Digital Editions Library, left click and hold on the downloaded book then drag it across to the eReader and let go to copy the title onto your device

Step 13

Repeat steps 9 to 12 to add more books to the device.

Unplug the USB cable from your eReader and computer then enjoy reading your titles.
