IDAHO TECHNICAL GUIDE NOTICE NUMBER 342

Purpose: Notification of the updated pesticides database for WinPST 3.1

Effective Date: Upon receipt

The pesticide database used by the WinPST 3.1 program was updated in January 2012. It includes new pesticide active-ingredient updates based on the latest Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) product database.

Instructions to Download and Install the Updated Database:

You DO NOT need to be a computer administrator to update the WinPST pesticide data.

Note that all pesticide settings (selected pesticides, application methods and application rates) will revert to original defaults when you install this update. The update will NOT affect your saved scenarios.

1. To download, click on the document link shown below and click SAVE (not OPEN).

Save the zipped file to: C:\Program Files\USDA\WIN-PST 3.1

2. Once the download is complete, click on OPEN FOLDER in the download dialog box to navigate to the downloaded file. Right click on the downloaded file (file name is stelprdb1046649.zip), select WINZIP > and choose EXTRACT TO HERE from the menu. This will extract the Access database to the same folder.

3. Open WinPST 3.1. At the top of the screen, click on TOOLS, then UPDATE PESTICIDES. The update screen will open.

4. Click on the browse button to the right of the DATABASE input box, and browse to the extracted Access database – it will be named WinPstUpdPest 1-31-12.mdb. Click OPEN. When the filename appears in the DATABASE input box, click PROCEED.

5. It will take less that a minute to update. When finished, the text box at the bottom will say “Update Pesticides process completed. OK.” Then click CLOSE.

6. WinPST 3.1 is now updated. If you want to verify this, you need to exit WinPST and then reopen. Click on HELP, DATABASE INFORMATION, then WIN PST MAIN DATABASE . The screen should look similar to the one below, but the dates will be 01/31/2012:
