Read Aloud: And Then Comes Summer, watch this video to learn some names of popular summer foods: to draw a picture of some of the things you may like to eat so you can share with the class. You can draw or create some fruit, vegetables, ice cream, or even maybe a hamburger or hotdog. Make sure to label your creation! MATH- Math concept of the week: Review shapes, colors, numbers, sizes, positional concepts, and counting/number identification. LITERACY-Letter of the week: Review alphabet, lower and upper case letter identification. We will use some practice games in zoom sessions. Writing/Sand : Practice writing the letters of your name in the sand. You can also try to spell out some ocean animals as well. Blocks/Building: use blocks or Legos to create a beach, ocean, or some treats you may enjoy after spending time in the ocean. TuesdayDate: August 11Yesterday we began to talk about some things we may eat during the warm weather. One of my favorite things to eat during the summer is ice cream. We can eat ice cream on a cone, in a cup, or from a container. What are some flavors of ice cream that you like?Read Aloud: Ice Cream Summer to make your own ice cream cone, using construction paper and markers. Color in small circles with your favorite flavor of ice cream. For example, if you like chocolate ice cream, make sure to use brown markers or crayons. Use sizes to explain if they are big or small. Also talk about their colors and shapes. Math: Draw some fruit you may eat during the summer. Count up all of the fruit you drew and write the number down. Dramatic Play: Pretend to sell ice cream or lemonade at a stand. How much will you charge per cup? What size cups will you use? WednesdayDate: August 12 Another yummy treat we eat during the warmer months is fruit, specifically watermelon. Some fruits only grow and are harvested in the warmer months, which explains why we only get to enjoy watermelon during the summer! What does a watermelon look like? Is it heavy or light? Read Aloud: The Watermelon Seed First, watch this video to learn the watermelon dance:, try to create your own watermelon using sponge-painting. Cut a sponge into triangles, dip it into red paint, and press it onto a piece of paper. You can then put some little black seeds if you want as well. Music/Movement: Try to sing a song about fruit and act out being that fruit and how it grows from the ground or on a tree. Water: practice washing fruits and vegetables before you eat them to make sure they are clean and safe. ThursdayDate: August 13 Now that we have enjoyed some fruit and ice cream, we need something to wash it all down with. A popular summer drink is called lemonade. Today, we will talk about how to make lemonade and even try to make some for us to enjoy!Read Aloud: Lemonade for Sale You can either make some real lemonade using this recipe:, make a craft of lemonade like this:Make sure to write the word lemonade. Art: Use crayons, markers, or paint to draw a picture of you eating some ice cream or an ice pop. You can also draw an ice cream truck. Make sure to label your picture. FridayDate: August 14Wrapping up our summer unit on safety, ocean animals, and the beach, we will review and discuss what we have explored. Also, we will touch upon safety when we return to school in September. We will have to wear a mask in school to protect us from germs.Teach the word “germs”Read Aloud: Coronavirus for Kids Today, we are going to make our own face masks and explain what a face mask does. A face mask can be made out of household items, such as a cloth. Kids can decorate them as well. Water: experiment and explore what happens when you put water in the freezer overnight. Dramatic Play: Pretend to build a store and sell groceries, such as fruits and vegetables.
