Living with diabetes is anything but boring. There are constantly new discoveries and new regulations that change how we best manage the every day aspects of life with this condition. Consider some of these interesting facts related to life with diabetes....

1. Dogs can be trained as service animals to detect high and low blood sugar. Did you know sugar can be smelled!?!

2. There can be a drop in blood sugar 8-12 hrs after drinking alcohol. Did you know you need to have someone check on you 8 hrs later!?!

3. If a person with diabetes is pulled over because of impaired consciousness (high/low blood sugar), the state has the right to suspend the driver's license for 6-12 months. Did you know that your state can also require a medical evaluation!?!

4. There is a gut hormone that can help curb sweet cravings, food binges and fast food consumption. Did you know the related hormone comes from lizard spit ? look into Amylin!?!

5. Special accommodations can be requested when taking standardized tests like the GRE, LSAT and MCAT. Did you know you need to request those in advance!?!

6. Vitamins and supplements can be used, just ma-ke sure your items have the USP (U.S. Pharmacopeia) seal. Did you know that you should not take more than 150% of the daily recommended value!?!

7. Exercise can both lower and raise your blood sugar. Did you know that an aerobic exercise can raise for up to 4 hours after exercise!?!
