The Minister challenged the Taskforce to identify opportunities to develop our night-time culture and economy and to find solutions to the current obstacles for those working in, and engaging with, this sector. She acknowledged the difficulties facing the Taskforce given the current Covid-19 restrictions and their impact on our society and culture, however she asked that the Taskforce take the opportunity to examine how we can help our night-time culture and economy to recover when the economy opens up again. The Minister asked that an extensive consultation process should take place to ensure that as many views as possible are considered. The Minister requested that the Taskforce report back to her within six months with a series of policy recommendations and practical measures to enable our cities, towns and villages develop new opportunities and grow their night-time culture and economy.Tour de TableThe meeting continued with an invitation from the Chair to members of the taskforce to introduce themselves and outline their area of work within their organisation. Consultation ProcessWhile the views of many of the key interest groups are well known and included in the work of the Taskforce already, the importance of consulting more widely to ensure that all views be considered was outlined by the Secretariat. In this context, a targeted and focussed consultation was proposed with a wide range of stakeholders which it is hoped should lead to more meaningful engagement and information which can be more easily processed and used in the deliberations of the Taskforce. It was agreed that the process needs to be both meaningful and manageable in the short time-frame available to the Taskforce. It was proposed that the Taskforce agree a full list of interest groups and bodies and that these stakeholders be asked to respond to key questions also agreed by the Taskforce.Taskforce members were asked to consider the approach and agree a list of stakeholders for consultation. The inclusion of international stakeholders was suggested. It was agreed that further consultation with consumers will be conducted as part of this process. The Secretariat will write to agreed stakeholders (via email) and request responses ahead of the next meeting The outcome of the consultation will help feed into the work of the Taskforce and can incorporate into their work plan as moving forward.
