Hello everybody!We’re are delighted to join you for Milwaukee Irish Fest at Home this year!!!!We hope that we will be out on the road again next year and will be able to see all of you in person, but in the meantime, we are honoured to join all of you across the world safely right from our very own kitchen!!We are excited to share a traditional Irish recipe with you that has become a favourite in our family - Irish Wheaten Bread or also known as Brown Bread.This delicious, multi-grain bread is a lovely compliment to a cuppa Barry’s Tea and perfect for hearty sandwiches!Favourite recipes are often like familiar friends, especially, when those recipes are shared between friends and family, reminding us of happy memories.This recipe is no exception.It reminds me of so many wonderful conversations and laughs shared across bottomless pots of tea.The recipe was shared with us by our dear friends, Keith and Kristyn Getty. The recipe is Keith’s mam’s.It has crossed oceans and been shared with many friends since, and we are thrilled to share it with all of you!We hope it brings you many delicious memories!!Happy Baking and have a magical festival weekend!!!love,Shannon & Liam & The Baking With Babies Crew** Special thanks to Emma Lambert (Liam’s Auntie Bee) for helping us to film our episodes for the Milwaukee Irish Fest at Home!And wonderful thanks to Melissa Ward for inviting us to do this as part of the festival weekend!! \Wheaten Bread Recipe1 3/4 c. whole wheat flour1/2 c. pinhead or steel-cut oats1/2 c. regular flour1 tsp. baking soda1/2 tsp. salt2 TBS. brown sugar** (I usually use heaping tablespoons and sometimes use 3.)2 TBS. melted butter1 c. buttermilk (just under 300mL)** (If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, add 1 TBS of lemon juice per cup of milk to create it.)Preheat oven to 385 degreed Fahrenheit.Pour oats into milk and allow to soak and soften.Mix all of the dry ingredients together evenly.Add melted butter and mix in well.Add brown sugar and mix well.Pour in milk and oats and mix thoroughly to create a sticky dough.Grease a bread pan and place the batter into the pan.Bake for 40 minutes at 385 degrees Fahrenheit.Check after 30-35 minutes.Serve with Kerry Gold and jam, or with Dubliner cheese and tomato! ................
