A Recommended Reading List from The Faculty of Christendom College, Fall 2020An opening thought from Dr. Cuddeback:To read well is a habit of the first order of importance. Summer is a great time for a student to foster this habit. During the school year you must read many things and you tend to be in a rush. During summer, then, is an important time freely to exercise good judgment and to commit yourself to regular good reading. This, perhaps more than what you do during the school year, forms a habit for a lifetime of good reading… Below are just a few eclectic suggestions. Included in this list are works of two kinds: Miscellaneous works that everyone should read in their lifeWorks that relate specifically to a professor’s department or specific field of study. Although the books in the core are not listed below, the Christendom faculty highly recommend rereading them, for they are some of the greatest works in history; if a professor, however, insists on a specific book from the core to be re-read, it is listed below. Also, the books are primarily organized below by department and professor, so I have not edited out duplicate recommendations, the different lists are organized as each professor chose to organize them, and I have added notes if professors have things to say about their recommendations.
