-26670-131445 iPad/Tablet PolicyFor Utilization to Conduct Town BusinessPURPOSEIn conjunction with their Technology Goals and Objectives, the Town Council authorized the implementation of the use of iPads/Tablets to streamline the agenda process and to distribute agendas electronically, enhance efficiency and align with Section 26 - Computer Use, E-mail and Internet Policy outlined in the Town’s Personnel Rules and Regulations and emerging “best practices”. Any Town business accomplished on the device may be subject to the California Public Records Act, California Political Reform Act and any additional applicable laws.IPad/TABLET GUIDELINESThe Apple iPad has been selected as the Town preferred standard of tablet technology. One may choose to use a different device as long as it is capable of and compatible with the paperless agenda process and is conducive to accomplish Town business processes in order to receive stipend. Use of a device other than iPad must be approved by Information Technology staff and Town Manager to ensure device is compatible with Town business needs. The Town will provide a taxable stipend to Town Officials, Management Team and other Town Staff as deemed necessary for work purposes by the Town Manager. This stipend is to purchase an iPad/Tablet in order to access agenda packets electronically, enhance efficiency and align with established and emerging “best practices”. Should employee choose a plan greater than the Town standard device, the difference shall be paid for by employee. The stipend will be included in the employee’s payroll check. The amount of the stipend may be adjusted upon periodic administrative review. The Town Manager will review the state of technology every three years to determine if updated devices/stipends is required. As the Town has access to obtain the devices directly from Apple or under a government procurement contract, the Town may choose to purchase the devices and then transfer ownership to employee upon receipt of payment from employee for the actual amount of purchase including fees. OPERATING REQUIREMENTS/TECHNICAL SUPPORTRequired/Recommended Accessories and ApplicationsAs individual owners of iPads, Town Officials and staff will be required to establish a personal iTunes account with personal credit card to set up an Apple/iTunes account in order to download necessary applications. While many of the applications needed for business purposes are free, some are required to be purchased for a nominal fee, which varies between applications.
