Pope Francis writes in 2013, "Jesus on the  cross feels the whole weight of the evil, and with

the force of God's love he conquers it;  he defeats it with his resurrection. This  is the good

that Jesus does for us on the throne of the cross. Christ's cross, embraced with love, never leads to sadness, but to joy, to the joy of having been saved and of doing a little of what he did on the day of his death."

Join us for summer 2016 as we continue this tradition of faith and fun. For students going into THIRD grade through recent

high school graduates. Visit for more information and to register.

Eleven Days “Jubilee Pilgrimage to Italy.” Come along November 8-18, 2016, to celebrate the “Jubilee Year” of the Catholic Church and our “Year of Mercy.” We’ll visit several historical and sacred sites, including Venice, Padua, Florence, Assisi, Siena, Rome and more. In Rome, we will attend a Papal Audience. We’ll have Mass daily in great Churches and Cathedrals along the way. Cost is $3,399 with departure from Omaha. For a brochure and more information, contact Fr. Dan Guenther, P.O. Box 658, Cherokee, Iowa 51012 or call

712-225-4606 or email frdanguenther@

ATTENTION: The Public Health Department is planning the triennial Kids Fest on Saturday, April 16 from 9:00-11:30 at the Vet’s Memorial Building.  We need lots of HS kids to volunteer to help us make this a success.  We need teens to wear mascot costumes and to guide the mascots around, to be runners, guides, help with registration, cleanup and other simple tasks.  They can pick a shift of 8:45-10:15

&10:15-12. or any/all part of the morning.  This would be a good chance for your CCD/CYO classes to earn credit for volunteer service.[pic]

PRAY THE ROSARY DAILY FOR VOCATIONS

May our prayers and sacrifices encourage young men and

PRAYER FOR THE JUBILEE OF MERCY…Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees God. Show us your face and we will be saved. You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. Amen ----Pope Francis

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MOMENTS OF MERCY – JUBILEE INDULGENCE…During a Jubilee Holy Year, Catholics may gain a PLENARY INDULGENCE. A plenary indulgence is a total remission of the temporal or worldly punishment due to sin. The New Catholic Encyclopedia states that an indulgence, in its primary sense, signifies the kindness and mercy of God. But in the special sense of a plenary indulgence, it is a remission of the temporal punishment due to sin, the guilt of which has been forgiven. THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS PLENARY INDULGENCE are going to confession, receiving communion, saying a prayer for the Pope, freedom from all attachment to sin, and visits to the four basilicas in Rome during the Holy Year. For this Holy Year, you may gain the indulgence by going through the Holy Door in Earling – you do not have to travel to travel to Rome. The other requirements still remain for the plenary indulgence. RCL Benzinger

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QUESTION OF THE WEEK….By summarizing Jesus’ teaching and example Paul’s “Canticle of Love” provides an examination of conscience for this Jubilee Year of Mercy: Is my love for others patient and kind, not jealous or pompous? Is it not self-seeking or quick-tempered. Does it not brood over injury or rejoice over wrongdoing? Does it rejoice with truth? Does it bear, believe, hope, and endure all things? Pastoral Patterns
