Locating and Accessing Information from Electronic Databases Teacher NotesThis lesson may be used during any research project. Because many students rely too much on Google, it is important to introduce them to quality sources found on electronic databases. Materials:Copies of database chart for every studentCopies of log-in information for every student (See your school or public librarian for this information. It is a subscription purchased by the WV Library Commission and offered to schools for free, so the user name and password are not to be posted online.)Computers or internet-connected devices for every studentBrief Outline of Learning Activity: Bell-ringer: Discuss frustrations students face when searching online. What qualities are they looking for in “good” sources? (Write these qualities on the board.) Introduce the use of databases, explaining how the sources found on databases meet the qualities listed.Pass out database handouts: Database chart that shows the various databases available to students at and log in information.
