FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Our faithful business manager, Skip Roos, is retiring in June. We will miss him! He has been a very competent and trustworthy steward of our financial assets here at St. Dominic since 2004, as well as all the other tasks and responsibilities associated with his position. On behalf of the parish I want to thank Skip for his faithful ministry and wish him a peaceful and relaxing retirement… well deserved! In the meantime we are looking for a new business manager. (See the advertisement)

The Christmas season ends on Sunday with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. This Christmas here at St. Dominic has been another blessing for us all. And like the giftt of Jesus Christ, God’s blessings again came through human hands and human hearts. Thank you for all your expressions of kindness and love in your cards and gifts to me. God has certainly loved me and supported me in this ministry through you.

Once again we celebrated the Christmas feast well here at St. Dominic. Fr. Chris, Deacon Mark, and I received a lot of comments about how beautifully the church was decorated this year. Special thanks to Robben florists and Kim King for the beautiful floral arrangements. We had a new group of decorators this year led by Lisa Grady and her friends Chris Gilkey and Connie Debruler and the following boys from Elder: Mitch Grady, Dalton Debruler, Austin Gilkey, Nick Cron, Andy Carroll, Sam Coy and Jack Rolfes. Thanks to Scott Stenger, Dan Jacobs and Jason Tuemler for providing the Christmas infrastructure.

The music at the Christmas Masses was provided by cantors, and adult and children’s choirs. We owe a debt of gratitude to Jim Dickman and all the musicians and singers who spent hours rehearsing to help us pray and give glory to God. Special thanks to the Hillgrove and White families who provided the music at the 3:00 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve. It was truly a family affair. Thanks to all the liturgical ministers who did their usual fine job.

The Christmas season has a way of touching hearts. Often at this time of year people hear a call to become affiliated with a community of believers and have questions about what the following of Jesus is all about or what is involved in becoming a Catholic. Here at St. Dominic we are able to welcome any inquirers at any time during the year and to walk with them as they discern where the Lord might be leading them. If you know of anyone is this situation, please encourage them to contact Theresa Eagan here at the office.

May you all experience God’s blessings throughout the New Year!

Fr. Jim

IN MEMORIAM

Please pray for the souls of Carla Conrad, Lillian Rosiello, Jerry Larsen, Bob Heinen, Steven Newport, Catherine Meyer and Mary Englert who died recently. May they rest in the peace of the Lord.

BAPTISMS

Daniel Robert Hatfield, son of Nathan and Jennifer Hatfield.

[pic] THE YEAR OF MERCY

Baptism starts things off. After his Baptism in the Jordon, Jesus became very public. So, too, for each us. We are saved, surely, in Baptism. But we are also sent. The clarity we have today is that we are sent to be missionary disciples – sent to proclaim mercy, sent to be justice. Sent. Maybe sent to my family or neighborhood, maybe sent to where I work, maybe sent to my school, maybe sent to…

• How will I behave this week as one who is both saved and sent?

There are several activities planned for St. Dominic parishioners to engage more fully in the Year of Mercy. Please watch the bulletin for more details.
