Intro: Complete this sentence… “The best way to spread Christmas cheer…

How does society and culture view Christmas? Gifts, love, family, food, happy…

Complete this sentence… “8 pound 6 ounce tiny infant baby Jesus”

This is how the world thinks of Jesus over Christmas

There is a nativity scene everywhere we turn

We sing “Happy Birthday” to baby Jesus

And we sing about His birth over Christmas

So how do you picture Jesus?

How you picture Jesus tells you a lot for how you worship Him, obey Him, etc.

Do you picture Jesus over Christmas as cute, cuddly, fat, pudgy baby Jesus?

Guys, we don’t worship, follow, or respect someone we can beat up!

Girls, you don’t really respect a man whom you just think is cute and adorable.

Jesus never asked us to think about Him like this!

So should we think about Him that way?

Should we celebrate His birth?

Does it demean Jesus?

OT: Isaiah 9

Isaiah is saying that a child will be born to us. He will be a Son! So yes, we do celebrate the birth, FIRST COMING, of Christ! Why is His birth so important? That means that He is fully man. He didn’t just appear. God didn’t send Him as an angel. He didn’t come as a Lion in Narnia. None of that works. He must come as fully human being. But He must be born of a virgin. His supernatural birth points to His deity, but it also means that He was born from God as well. God put Him in the womb of Mary. God did not have sex with Mary which is what the Mormons believe. God placed Him within Mary and because He did not have an earthly father, Jesus wasn’t born with a sinful nature like ours.

But also notice what Isaiah is saying. He’s saying that there will be an overturn of government. We’re about to have a huge overturn of government in our country. Some of you may be excited about that if you’re a liberal who loves abortion, homosexuality, and other unbiblical truths. Some of you may be scared about the democrats having pure rule in our government. But here’s the truth…IT DOESN’T MATTER! Jesus is the one who is really running everything. The government is on His shoulders. We vote right. We work hard. We are involved in society…YES! But ultimately, we are serving Jesus and not America.

He will have many names:

Wonderful Counselor – He is the wonderful wisdom of God.

Mighty God – He’s not just fully man but He’s also fully, Mighty God Himself.

Everlasting Father – He’s not God the Father, but Jesus rules His people with love

Price of Peace – Jesus is after true, real, lasting peace.

NT: I think its more important to picture Jesus as how He will be in His 2nd coming than how He came in His 1st coming…

So turn to Revelation 19

Jesus is coming back on a white horse. Like a western, He’s the good guy who wins

He is called faithful and true. He is faithful to us. He is the truth!

In righteousness he judges and makes war. He is right in the war He makes.

His eyes are like flames of fire. He’s passionate for His followers, wrathful…

On his head are many diadems…crowns! Jesus is coming back with bling bling.

Jesus is coming back with so many true nicknames…we don’t even know them!

He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood…if someone shows up to a fight…

Armies of heaven are in fine linen. They won’t be fighting. Jesus fights for us

Jesus is coming back with wrath to destroy and rule.

Jesus is coming back with His title written on His robe and thigh. All tatted up!

LIFE: As we celebrate Jesus’ first coming, we must concentrate on Jesus’ second comin!

What to do over Christmas…

Christmas is all about worshipping Christ.

How will you worship Christ over Christmas?

Will you focus more on giving than getting?

Will you focus more on praying than lazing?

Will you focus on His Word?

Will you focus on loving others rather than being a brat?

When you get with your friends, will you tell them about this Jesus

Will you use your Christmas break for Christ?

Will you be a spiritual leader around your extended family?

Christmas is a celebration like a dad passing out cigars when his son is born…

Christmas is more about giving than getting. We don’t celebrate by getting…

God has given us His only Son, so what do we do? We give to others in return!
