|Position |Casework Support Worker |

|Description |Be responsible for the direct care, supervision and safety of children in Out of Home Care during contact visits |

| |with their birth families and significant others and provide other casework support as required |

|Reports To |Program Coordinator |

1. Position Specific Responsibilities:

1. Assist children/ young people in Out of Home Care to maintain links and develop relationships with their family of origin through positive contact experiences.

2. Supervise, monitor & participate in quality face to face contact visits between children/young people and their birth families according to the child/young person’s care plan as directed by the program Coordinator.

3. Provide transport for children/young people and birth families to facilitate family contact, respite care and contact with significant others.

4. Provide casework support to children and young people including but not limited to mentoring, accompanying them on outings and transition support

5. Participate as a secondary worker as required for assessments, home visits and other activities as required.

6. Work flexible hours including weekends to ensure contact visits meet the needs of children, carers, birth families and relevant court orders.

7. Maintain accurate records in accordance with the programs policies and procedures and provide contact summary reports to the relevant Caseworker/Coordinator. This includes the provision of reports for Community Services and/or Court if requested.

8. Attend court as and when directed by the Program Coordinator or Manager.

9. Participate in team meetings, consultations and supervision sessions as required.

10. Exercise any authority which may be delegated from time to time with due care and professionalism, maintaining an awareness of agency expectations and standards at all times.

11. Ensure the environment and structure of all contact visits meets the ongoing safety needs of the children in your care, immediately take appropriate action if at anytime the safety of the child/children is at risk.

12. Have a working knowledge of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 including the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian Out of Home Care Standards.

13. Undertake other duties as determined by the Manager or Program Coordinator from time to time.

2.9 Take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of people at the workplace by complying with the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011. Report and monitor safety procedures, including acting on reports of injuries and incidents, in line with the agency-wide and program specific WHS policies.

2.10 Accurately complete your timesheet daily and submit to your supervisor fortnightly along with relevant authorised leave forms.

3. Professional Responsibilities:

3.1 Engage in professional development and set and fulfil development goals.

3.2 Participate in all required training for your position as outlined in the Staff Learning and Development Framework and other training as required.

3.3 Use the Service Group Library and other resources to remain knowledgeable about practices and other developments relevant to your position.

3.4 Agree with your supervisor the frequency of regular supervision for your role and actively participate in this supervision.

3.5 Actively participate in your annual performance review within 2 months of its due date.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or currently studying a related community sector direct service delivery field.

• Experience in the direct care of children and young people.

• Demonstrated interpersonal, negotiation, consultation and written communication skills.

• Ability to develop and maintain a partnership approach with the community and other agencies in all aspects of work.

• Knowledge and understanding of child/adolescent behaviour and development.

• Medium level proficiency in MS Office (particularly MS Word and Excel); ability to utilise email functions.

• Current drivers licence and willingness to transport families and children.

• Understanding of EEO, WH&S and cultural issues.

• Willing to undertake training in attachment and bonding

• First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake.
