Athletics Coordinator

General Statement of Duties

The Athletics Coordinator is responsible for managing the youth and adult sports leagues supervision of contract referees and staff, establishment of the program structure, effective communications with staff and parents, and program accounting. The Athletics Coordinator also assists with management of the pool during the summer months. The person also assists with general department duties such as managing internet information, social media, answering phones, and greeting the public.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Tasks

❖ Coordinate and oversee all youth and adult sports leagues offered by Polk County Parks & Recreation. Leagues include youth soccer, volleyball, basketball, and baseball and adult basketball. Supervise all associated contract and as-needed staff. Establish the program structure and policies, including league structure, scheduling, registration process, and team selection.

❖ Maintain equipment inventory and lending system for all sports equipment.

❖ Recruit sponsors for youth sports leagues.

❖ Manage sports league deposits and ensure all participants have paid program fees.

❖ Utilize strong fiscal management and budget awareness for sports league and related expenditures.

❖ Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to build on successful outcomes of the sports leagues.

❖ Assist with monthly e-newsletter, social media posts and the department website.

❖ Assist with managing the office including answering phones, greeting the public.

❖ Assist with management of Gibson Park Pool including supply needs, facility maintenance, and pool manager duties such as chemical testing and balancing. (Certified Pool Operator training will be provided).

❖ Assist with summer day camp as needed including driving vehicles for trips.

Additional Job Duties

❖ Help staff with cleaning and looking out for maintenance needs of Recreation Department

❖ Any other duties as assigned by Director

❖ Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and financial transactions

❖ Knowledge of MS Office and databases

❖ Knowledge of program management

❖ Maintain ethical business practices

❖ Establish and maintain positive working relationships within the department, local government, and local partners

❖ Possess leadership and business acumen

❖ Be organized: set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, and information

❖ Develop new and unique ways to improve operations within the organization

Desirable Education and Experience

❖ Bachelor’s degree in associated field preferred; and/or

❖ Equivalent work experience in related field (3-5 years)

Physical Activities and Requirements

The physical requirements for this position are classified as: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; needs to occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer; must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, both indoors and outdoors.

The physical activities for this position are: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, standing, walking, grasping, talking, writing, hearing.
