In cooperation with their mission statement, “the vision of the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce is to enhance the quality of life and economic competitiveness in historic, multicultural and contemporary Northeast and to enhance its overall economic position within the greater metropolitan area.” Five programs are currently housed under NEKCCC; Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Kansas City Missouri CDE, Independence Avenue Community Improvement District (CID), Northeast Advantage Programs, and the Paseo Gateway Transformation Plan. Each plays a critical role in assisting the needs of the community, and are considered integral to its structure. With all that is being done on behalf of the residents of Northeast Kansas City, awareness is our greatest advantage. Residents equipped with the knowledge of available community resources can tackle immediate business or personal needs, resulting in a thriving, united neighborhood. Unfortunately, without a go-to resource guide, too many residents are left unaware of the means available just outside their door.To better serve our community and the programs it houses, we are proposing a community resource guide to be made available to all residents of the Northeast Kansas City area. This comprehensive guide will be offered in both paper and online formats so that it is easily accessible for anyone in the neighborhood. With this guide, our goal is to create a stronger, more self-sufficient, and unified community. We are currently applying for a grant from Impact KC for $15,000 to make this need a reality. Company OverviewThe Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce (NEKCCC) was founded in 1995. Located at 6400 Independence Avenue, the NEKCCC operates in conjunction with the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District (CID), a 501c(3) both working to improve the lives of those in the metropolitan community.NEKCCC has been successful in its partnership with four additional programs to meet the needs of its citizens; Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), Kansas City Missouri CDE, Northeast Advantage Programs, and the Paseo Gateway Transformation Plan. NEKCCC has also enjoyed individual successes, such as overseeing the reopening of Snyder’s, a beloved local grocery store that is vital to the area. Any accomplishments achieved by NEKCCC are achievements for the community. Customer AnalysisOur resource guide will have three primary target audiences: community members within the Northeast community, visitors from the Greater Kansas City region, and visitors from outside the Kansas City munity Members from within the Northeast communityMembers of the Northeast community will find this resource as a valuable in finding and accessing a variety of businesses and services to meet multiple needs. All of the businesses in the international marketplace offer specialized products that tailor to specific cultures. Such products are generally not found in chain supermarkets and many are not found in any other locations in the region. This resource would assist community members in finding those culture-specific products that they need that might be difficult to find munity members would also benefit from having more easily accessible information about organizations that provide assistance and programming in areas such as financial stability, employment, and activities for children. There is a clear and obvious need for a resource guide, as 2010 U.S. Census data found that of the 11,277 households in the Northeast, 9,355, or 83% had annual household income of less than $50,000. From 1980 to 2010, median household income in the Northeast has steadily declined, from $31,060 to $23,217. In 2010, 3,207, or 28.4% of Northeast households relied on Social Security and/or public assistance to supplement household income. While resources certainly aren’t lacking, a comprehensive guide for area residents has yet to be developed, leaving many without the knowledge of services that could better their lives.Visitors from the Greater Kansas City regionCurrently, the Greater Kansas City region has a generally negative outlook on the Northeast Community. Rather than focusing on potential negative stereotypes, this guide will feature the region’s finest qualities and sense of community.Visitors from outside the Kansas City regionAs it stands, the Northeast area tends to be overshadowed to tourists and visitors. Once again, bringing the community’s unique, diverse qualities to light will result in an increase in outside visitors to the petitive AnalysisThere is no current resource guide that serves the Northeast Kansas City community, making our venture very unique. There is therefore a clear need for this guide to be produced and distributed throughout the area. Keeping in mind that there may still be some without access to a paper product, we will also be offering the complete guide in an online, easily accessible format.Marketing PlanTo promote local businesses in the area, we will meet with local business owners, primarily in the International Marketplace. If they wish to place an ad in our guide, we will provide it to them free of charge. As further explained in our financial plan, the grant will cover any expenses; our goal is to assist the community. Charging for advertisement would create a barrier for a small business. In order to effectively distribute these guides, we will place them in community gatherings. These include but are not limited to; Snyder’s Grocery, the Northeast Branch of the Kansas City Library, local churches and community gatherings. Additionally, the website will be advertised for easy accessibility. Operations PlanIn order to remain connected with the community, the following is a social media plan to promote community engagement. Each Tuesday will feature a Facebook post featuring the hashtag #BusinessToolTuesdays. In the post there will be helpful information for business owners, such as methods for applying for the store-front rebate or other business needs. There will also be an effort on both Facebook and Twitter to get residents to buy locally. NEKCCC’s website will be updated to include a special section spotlighting businesses along Independence Avenue, with links to Facebook and Twitter included. On a specified day each week, both the website and social media will spotlight a certain Independence Avenue business. In the post, NEKCCC will encourage residents to visit the location, photograph their experience and post to their social media accounts with the hashtag #IndependenceDay. ?Financial PlanWe are seeking $15,000 of funding from the Hall Family Foundation grant with $2,000 of existing funding for any hidden costs.ExpenseUnit CostQualityTotal CostTypesetting and Design$200.0028 pages$5,600.00Customized map$3,000.001$3,000.00Cost of mapping each neighborhood$200.006 neighborhoods$1,200.00Printing$2.812,500 books$7,015.00Training to sustain website$350.00Miscellaneous (shipping, additional design)$885.00$15,350.00AppendixThe following resources are a sample of what will be included in this community guide.ResourceCategoryThe Housing Authority of Kansas City MissouriHousing assistanceKansas City MuseumCulture, recreationInternational Marketplace BusinessesCultureNE Branch of Kansas City LibraryAcademic/job assistance, language learningRestart Inc.ESL, housing assistance, job assistanceHabitat for Humanity RestoreHome repairHarmony Project KCYouth educationDella LambESL, childcare, youth services, drug and violence prevention, refugee servicesMattie RhodesESL, children’s art education, culture, substance abuse treatmentKessler Park SingletrackRecreationThe Tamale KitchenSelf-sufficiencyNortheast Kansas City Chamber of CommerceBusiness success ................
