Hometown Country KC 101 heads to Bermuda!

Norwegian Cruise Lines, AAA North Penn Travel and Hometown Country KC 101 have joined forces to offer a spectacular vacation to the tropical island of Bermuda. Plan now to join Kevin and Jenn Thomas as they escort a fun group tour on board the Norwegian Breakaway, the newest and largest ship in the fleet. Set sail from New York City to the land of gentle turquoise waters and warm pink sands in September, 2016.

Depart the Port Authority of New York on board one of the most dynamic and exciting vessels on the seas today. There are 17 dining venues and 12 bars to choose from ? is there enough time to visit them all? You surely will enjoy trying as you sail toward Bermuda and the lush beauty of this island paradise. Spend time splashing about at the multi-story Aqua Park, while you enjoy refreshing beverages served by the friendly staff. Hide away with a good book, or stay in touch with the office if you must. Relax before dinner with a trip to the full service spa, and gear up for the Broadway production of "Rock of Ages!" Or if you don't want to miss a moment of the fall football season, drop by O'Sheehan's Neighborhood Bar & Grill, a 24 hour sports bar and restaurant that features American favorites and some great comfort food. There is a giant two story screen for watching all the latest sports and movies, but for the arm chair athlete in us all, try the miniature bowling, pool and air hockey games.

As the Breakaway docks at King's Wharf, it is time to step off the ship and into paradise. Walk the streets and duck into the eclectic shops that feature so many unusual items that will be great souvenirs. Enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the many cafes, bars or restaurants along the way. Your beautiful beach experience is just a cab or bus ride away. Horseshoe Bay beckons and the warm waters will soothe your body and soul as you relax on the pink sands.

The history of the island calls to you ? take a walking tour or join one of

many group travel opportunities on the island to learn more about the culture and the people of this beautiful getaway. Or have you dreamed of playing golf on an island paradise, where every hole challenges you with bright green fairways and breathtaking turquoise waters along the way? All of this can be yours as you enjoy three days on the island.

The return trip to New York will still offer you a chance to enjoy more shipboard activities, but it is also that time when reality hits and you know you are heading home. You are sure to return home with wonderful memories thanks to your expert guides and all around fun couple, Kevin and Jenn. Enjoy KC 101 and their company as you think about heading back to Bermuda again and again. Reservations are being accepted now ? plan ahead and don't miss out on AAA Travel and KC 101 Hometown Country's Bermuda spectacular.

Rugged Beauty ? Breathless Choices

There are few destinations in our nation, or perhaps even the Northern Hemisphere, that can compare to the drama, the beauty, the majesty, and the excitement of our own 49th state, Alaska. AAA Travel provides one of the most extensive itinerary lists as we offer destinations that include the Inside Passage, quaint seaside towns, Glacier Bay, and a land tour to Denali National Park, featuring Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America. Several additional packages have even added the Yukon as a more extensive opportunity to explore this rugged and breathtaking land.

You can depart on a cruise/tour for as little as 9 or as many as 14 days with itineraries as varied as your taste in travel. Imagine cruising along the Inside Passage, where the glaciers calve, the whales breech, and the porpoises and sea otters frolic as if they are enjoying your trip as much as you are. Watch for wildlife roaming the shorelines ? it is hard to miss the bears, the moose, the elk, the deer, and so many other creatures that call this beautiful region home. The crisp cool air will fill your lungs with the refreshing feel of the closeness to nature that you crave as you marvel at your surrounds.

Many of the Princess Lines ships stop at a series of eclectic cultural seaside towns that dot the Alaskan coast. The world's largest collection of totem poles can be found in Ketchikan, with museums providing exhibits of native carvings and artifacts. Sitka boasts of its Russian roots in such locales as Saint Michael's Cathedral, which houses priceless icons. Skagway offers a taste of the gold rush days, and Juneau, accessible only by sea or air, blends the old with the new as it also displays its gold rush connection along with being the capital city of our 49th state. And do not miss Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau's most popular attraction, as it rises above the city with its icy ridges and crevasses.

Not only is Alaska an amazing experience by sea, but adding a land tour enhances the experience tremendously. When you board a luxury rail car to Denali National Park, you might catch a glimpse of the majestic Mount

McKinley, weather permitting. Additional optional excursions include a visit to a dog sled village, or perhaps a bus tour along the mountain roads. Keep an eye out for caribou, Dall sheep, fox, moose, wolves, and brown bears as you share the wilderness with them. Spend time in Anchorage and Fairbanks as you complete the land portion of your tour. This year, several tours have added the seldom seen wonders of the Yukon, another way to enjoy your trip to this strikingly beautiful destination.

The beauty of Alaska is so tremendous that there can never be too many ways to enjoy this rugged and breathtaking land. Once you have loved it there, we think you will want to go back again and again, and each and every opportunity can be different. Call AAA Travel today to learn more about the wide variety of choices that will make your Alaskan dreams come true.

A GLACIER AND A WEDDING

By Glenn Zumbach, Senior V.P./C.O.O. AAA North Penn

My wife Becky and I have taken five previous adventure vacations. We enjoyed the great outdoors in some our country's greatest National Parks: Yosemite, Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, and Glacier. Our most recent adventure took us to the state of Alaska. My brother, David and his girlfriend Sheila joined us for this trip that was especially memorable for them.

Our home base for our trip was the beautiful town of Seward, which is on the Kenai Peninsula, right at the base of the Kenai Fjords National Park. On day one of our trip, we hiked the Exit Glacier to the Harding Icefield. This was an 8.2 mile, seven hour trek, covering 1,000 feet in elevation. As we hiked alongside of the glacier, we stopped regularly to take in the beauty of our surroundings. The unique dense blue color of the glacier ice was magnificent. From a distance we could see other hikers rappelling down into the crevasses of the glacier; my wife added this to her bucket list. At the end of the trail, we were rewarded for our efforts, by gaining access to the view of the Harding Icefield. This icefield is 300 square miles, supplies ice to 40 glaciers, and is estimated to be at a maximum depth of 1,500 feet.

Our second day included a Nature and Wildlife tour. We were able to see whales, sea lions, eagles, and other Alaskan wildlife. Our third day included some bike riding and shopping in the town of Seward. The town not only has many quaint shops but great restaurants that specialized in the local seafood.

We did save the best for our last day. While making arrangements for our trip, David and Sheila had decided that they would get married while we were in Alaska! It is safe to say they had an absolutely unique wedding day. Our day was organized by Adventure Sixty North. They are Seward's outdoor adventure center. It was a pleasure to work with their professional staff and our terrific guide Jay. It began with a 10 minute helicopter ride to the Bear Glacier lagoon. Our flight took us down the coast, viewed the bay and over a saddle between two mountains. This was one of the most amazing sights that exist in this part of Alaska. Upon arrival, Jay gave us kayaking instructions and then the five off us pushed off and began paddling towards Bear Glacier. As we navigated the lagoon we passed icebergs of all

shapes and sizes. In 1.5 hours, we arrived at the base of the glacier. Our next step was a one hour hike that was difficult because of the terrain being recently exposed by the glacier. When we reached the ice, we put our ice crampons on our hiking boots so we could safely walk on the glacier. Jay instructed us on the proper walking technique and safety precautions. We spent 1.5 hours exploring the glacier; peering into crevasses, deep blue pools, and other glacial features. Jay picked the perfect spot for the ceremony. It was my honor to be the officiant of the ceremony. In Alaska, an individual can apply for a one day license to perform a wedding. My wife was the official wedding photographer! We celebrated with a treat of homemade smoked salmon from Jay. The Adventure Sixty North staff does not know of a previous wedding being held on Bear Glacier!

Our trip is filled with life time memories. If you are interested in creating your own Alaskan memories, give our Travel Agency a call and they would be glad to help.

Ann's Trip to Alaska

By Ann M. Kolb, Travel Agent, Wellsboro office

Two years ago my husband Floyd and I began talking to Linda Welshans, my boss, about possibly helping out AAA by escorting a group to Alaska. It can be tough for the agency to find just the right escorts, and Linda agreed to give us a try. Floyd and I looked at Princess Cruise Line itineraries, paying particular attention to one that included the Kenai Peninsula, which we had heard so much about. We found just the right Princess package, and we were on our way to a truly wonderful travel experience.

On July 12, 2014, 33 people left on an early morning bus ride to Philadelphia. Little did we realize that we would share this ride as well as new lifelong friendships as a result of this adventure. Our 14 night "Off the Beaten Path" package had us landing in Fairbanks, with a Princess representative greeting us and sending us on our way to the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge. This portion of our land/sea package included a riverboat trip, a gold dredge, and a tundra wilderness tour where we were able to see grizzlies, caribou, golden eagles, Dall sheep, and a countryside that took our breath away! The weather was a bit damp and chilly but no one seemed to mind as we enjoyed the excitement and the company along the way. The double decker railroad tour to the Mount McKinley Princess Lodge was a favorite of many, and although we could not see that famous mountain due to some rain and fog, the rest of the Alaskan beauty shown bright.

Our next stop was the Kenai Wilderness Lodge ? our bus trip included a 2 hour stopover in Anchorage on the way. The Lodge gave us two days of rich adventure ? many wished it had been more!

On Saturday morning, the 19th, we headed to Whittier and the cruising part of our trip. We boarded the Coral Princess for a second week of fun and adventure. Our itinerary gave us two days of glacier cruising and more animal sightings than we ever imagined. Whales, sea otters, eagles and so many others seemed to be everywhere and everyone seemed to get some great pictures to help them remember the moments. We stopped off at Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan before landing at Vancouver to begin our trip home.

I am thankful for the pleasure and opportunity to escort such a fine group of people. Two weeks after we returned home, we met to share pictures and memories. Most of us hope to travel together again, and we are sure that AAA will make it all possible!
