"Social Activities for Men". This is a move to get away from the retirement aspect and move more to the Staying "ACTIVE" aspect. The State Board feels this may help to recruit men who are semi-retired or those who just don't feel retired. This too may help draw some of the younger retirees. For this next year, I hope to help expand our membership, get more of our membership involved with activities and have our branch recognized as a great branch that we are. I also hope to increase the communication between the BEC and the membership in order to take our branch in the direction where the membership feels comfortable. Let's not be resistant to change but to welcome it as it can take us into the future. Let us be old fashion enough to remember our roots but be open and forward thinking enough to meet that future. As a former Big Sir Bob Brown quoted Mr. Spock, "Live Long and Prosper". Maybe that should be Branch 106's tag line.

Long time SIR member Richard Marsch passed away recently. Dick piloted 65 bombing missions in France and Italy in a B-26 Marauder. He had enlisted right after Pearl Harbor and had a civilian pilots license prior to enlisting. He was stationed in Sardinia where he had flown preparatory bombing missions for the Normandy landings. He was also assigned to training French and South African pilots where he had to use a translator during the actual training. He had turned 101 yrs old on Oct 29 2019 and was the Grand Marshal of the Fairfield 2019 Veterans Day Parade.
It is sad to inform our SIRs members of the passing of Murray Sussman. He passed away February 4th at the age of 77 after a fight with cancer for the last six months. Murray was born in New York. He served in the army reserves and had a long career in retail management. After spending most of his working life on the east coast he moved to California in 1998. For the last few years he resided in Rio Vista at Trilogy. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Rob, stepson Michael, stepdaughter Courtney, and grandchildren Michael Jr. and Reya. He also is the brother-in-law of fellow SIRs member Pat Colebank and his wife Debbie. Murray joined SIRs in 2009 and was a regular on the golf course until his illness. He also was in charge of SIRs computer duties (membership, database, birthday lists, etc.) His kind and gentle demeanor will be missed. Murray will be cremated and Dorothy will keep his ashes There will be a memorial for Murray on Saturday Feb 29th at Trilogy from 1-4 pm. They need to know approximately how many from SIR would be attending. If you might go please contact Pat Cleaver at cleaver75@ by Feb. 22 So he can let them know.
