OBJECTIVES, NC Standard Course of Study

1. To strengthen reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

2. To develop safe and efficient laboratory skills.

3. To prepare for AP and/or college chemistry.

4. To encourage science literacy and a positive “science” outlook.

CLASS POLICIES

1. Respect, respect, respect.

2. Be in your seat, have materials and homework out and begin the “catalyst” (bell ringer) posted on the board or on the cart.

3. Safety is part of your grade.

4. Classwork other than chemistry will be confiscated and returned to the respective teacher at the end of the day.

5. Handbook rules are classroom rules. There is NO “phone warning.” No food or drink. Outfit “adjustments” result in a sweep. Phones and smart watches are collected prior to tests and quizzes.

6. Advanced notification for school related absences is respectfully requested ASAP.

SUPPLIES

1. Bound composition notebook, black pen for labs, colored pencils, tape or glue

2. A non-graphing scientific calculator that will perform logarithmic functions. Graphing calculators not permitted for use in class.

3. A 3-ring binder with at 1-1/2” or 2” spine to contain your notes, returned worksheets and homework. SAVE EVERYTHING

GRADES: 25% lab, 55% tests, 10% quizzes, 10% homework.

Make-up work: If a student is absent, it is the STUDENT’S responsibility to get class notes from a peer and to check the bins for handouts. For an excused absence, a student has 3 school days to make up a daily grade, lab or test grade before it is late. Notify me AS SOON AS you know of any planned absences, including field trips. Never assume that it is “OK to miss class.”

Late work: In some cases, I will not accept late work. Work turned in up to one day after it is due is 25 points off. If the work is more than one day late, it is 50 points off! THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

This policy can be adjusted at any time.
