TEACHING ORDER

Before Reading

Teachers will teach plot to another grade level (3 or 4). Teachers will preview PLOT vocabulary (Character, setting, conflict, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution, Point of View, and theme) and go through vocabulary words to the students before reading the story. Explain each word and show them on the plotline where they belong.

During reading

The teacher will read the story to the student. They will ask students to listen to the story and think about where the elements of plot are located. Student teacher may stop and ask questions about the PLOT elements. Please read with fluency and voice.

After Reading

Together the students and teacher will complete the plotline. This may be done through discussions rather than writing. Use the vocabulary cards to help them through the plotline. Many students in the past have had answers prepared on mini-cards, so they could just velcro or tape the answers to the plotline.

Assessment: If you have something else that you would like to do, please propose it to me.

• Student teachers will create an assessment where the student has to put the story in chronological order, based on the plot.
