Weather permitting, parents should line the sidewalks around Walker School to watch the Halloween Parade starting at 8:45 am (9:15am in case of rain). Students will follow their normal schedule after the parade.IN CASE OF RAIN:If the weather forces us indoors for the Halloween Parade, we will start the parade at 9:15 am. Children will first parade through the hallways for their classmates, and then parade through the Multi Purpose Room for their parents and family members. Keep your fingers crossed for some ghoulishly-good weather! PM kindergarten students are welcome to attend accompanied by an adult.HALLOWEEN COSTUMESLooking to purchase a Halloween costume? Keep this information in mind as our goal is to have a safe and fun environment so all students can celebrate and enjoy Halloween. Please follow these guidelines:Costumes should be appropriate for an elementary school. No weapons of any kind may be brought to school, nor may the costumes depict blood or any type of violence;Hair dye will be allowed, however it must be applied at home (and try to avoid sprays/dyes that have a strong odor).Face paint may be used to enhance a costume, i.e. whiskers for a kitten or a black eye for a football player, but the entire face cannot be covered with paint. For safety reasons we need to be able to identify children quickly, if necessary.Costumes must be safe for students to walk up and down stairs.Costumes should be reasonable in size and decoration so that children can sit at their desks and go about the routines of their normal day (i.e. avoiding sumo wrestling costumes). If you have questions regarding your child’s costume, contact the classroom teacher well in advance of Halloween.BAD HAIR DAY?-327025-56515000Individual student picture retakes will be taken from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday, November 6th, for anyone who was absent or would like their picture retaken. And please invite any veterans to join us for the assembly. We would love to honor them. Deadline for pictures is Friday, 11/2/2018. Thank you!Questions? Contact Jaime Sciaccottajsciaccotta@PARKING ALERT DAY!!On Friday, 11/9 at 2pm we are having an assembly to honor our veterans. Many of our veterans and their families have limited mobility and it would be much easier for them to park as close to the building as possible. If you plan to attend the assembly, please park on the street. Our parking lot will be used for our veterans. Thank you for your kindness.END OF FIRST TRIMESTERBelieve it or not, we’ve almost completed our first trimester of school! While parents know about strep throat in children and its symptoms, not everyone is aware that headache and/or stomachache / nausea can be the only symptoms of strep. Over the past several weeks, there have been a few cases of strep reported after having symptoms of headache and stomachache only. Please read the following information about strep throat to become more familiar with it. If many cases of strep are reported in a classroom at the same time, a note will be sent home to those parents. Notes are not sent home with each case of strep. If your child is diagnosed with strep throat, please let the school nurse know, as well as reporting it on the attendance line. Students with strep are excluded from school for 24 hours after starting antibiotics. Additionally, students are excluded until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication or are free from vomiting for 24 hours.Signs and symptoms of strep throat can include:*Throat pain*Fever*Painful swallowing*Headache*Red and swollen tonsils*Tender lymph nodes*Rash*Nausea or vomiting*Body achesStrep throat is most common in children, but it affects people of all ages. If you or your child have signs or symptoms of strep throat, see your doctor for prompt testing and treatment.BOX TOPSThe 5th grade class is collecting Box Tops! Last year’s gift was the Buddy Bench!Print a new collection sheet here: Box Tops Collection SheetD86 REFERENDUMThe projects in the referendum were identified by hundreds of people – community members, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, Board members and industry experts – for over three years. These projects would fix infrastructure, accessibility, school security and bring facilities up to par with the instruction going on inside them. To pay for these projects, a homeowner with a $500,000 fair market value house would pay an extra $300 per year in taxes. The last successful referendum was in 1962, and all of the money went to build Hinsdale South.TOURS:Hinsdale South: Thursday, 11/1 – 6pm (prior to fall musical)See additional resources/documents:D86 website: impact calculator: Project List: Fact Sheet: to Referendum Funding: US:Walker School630.861.4600Jan Martin, Secretary Ext. 4601June Zogas, NurseExt. 4608Eric Chisausky, Principal Ext. 4604Absence Line Press “1”Fax630.887.0387WALKER SCHOOL HOURS:School Day:8:35 am – 3:05 pmAM Kindergarten8:35 am – 11:25 amLunch11:25 – 12:15 pmPM Kindergarten12:15 – 3:05 pmWALKER FLYERS:Submissions for WWNews are due by Monday at noon.
