February 2015 Kindergarten Themes:

• The Tropical Amazon Rain Forest: As we learn the alphabet, we will learn about the amazing S. American animals (monkeys, parrots, sloths, snakes, caimen, lizards, jaguars, tree frogs, etc.), plants (palm trees, bromeliads, etc.) and fruits (mangoes, coconuts, etc.). We will make comparisons to life here in Canada to life elsewhere, as well as learn to respect our environment.

• Continuation of numbers: printing and grouping numbers to 10; higher rote counting

Dates to remember:

Look at the calendar. Please bring something that starts with the letter listed on the calendar.

• Feb.17: 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL!: To celebrate 100 days of school, we will be making a crazy salad with our big buddies. Please bring 50 TINY COUNTED pieces of food/treats in a little Ziplock bag. Food items could be 50 little candies (like Smarties or Valentine hearts), 50 little pieces of cereal (like Fruit Loops), or other tiny items like chocolate chips,

raisons, etc. No nuts or things that crumble easily, please. Please count the

50 items of food WITH your child before school. If this is difficult, count 5

groups of 10, then count by10’s to 50. In fact, this is how I will be teaching

them to count big amounts. Each food item should be able to fit in this sized box.

• Continuation of numbers: (1-100); printing and grouping numbers to 10
