At the south end of the middle school parking lot

Kalkaska Middle School Open House

5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Teachers will be available at this time

All KMS students may pick up their schedule. Assignment logs will be available for 6th graders to purchase for $5.00.

SEE YOU THERE!

LOCKS FOR LOCKERS

7th and 8th grade students will need to purchase locks for their lockers. The cost is $5.00 and will be returned at the end of the year when the student turns in their lock. The school will not be responsible for lost items. Our school is used for many events in the evenings and on weekends. Items in unlocked lockers may be too tempting for some.

ASSIGNMENT LOGS FOR 6TH GRADE

In an effort to increase student responsibility toward homework assignments, 6th grade students are required to use an assignment book to be carried with them throughout the day at the middle school. This book is a great tool to help keep students organized and will also be used for their hall pass and may be used for communication to parents.

The cost of the assignment log is $5.00. Any student that has paid for theirs by September 12 will be able to take part in an ice cream party at the end of the day.

GENERAL PUBLIC NOTICE REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS

The following are some of the general notices school districts are required to provide:

• Notice required by family Education Rights and Privacy Act: school districts must give notice of the categories of the information, which they have designated as public directory information. (Student’s name, address, grade and parent’s name.)

• Notice of release of directory information to military recruiters: parents of secondary school students have a right to request that their child’s name, address and telephone number not be released to a military recruiter without prior consent.

• Rights of parents to inspect third party surveys before they are distributed to students.

At various times throughout the year we have requests for directory information. If you would like to request that this information not be given out for your student, submit your request in writing to the middle school.

7TH GRADE INLAND SEAS TRIP

October 4, 5, 6

Once again, our 7th grade students will have a unique and exciting opportunity to participate in a field trip aboard the schooner Inland Seas that is docked at Suttons Bay. This is an educational adventure that will take place on West Grand Traverse Bay.

Look for more information to come home.

REGISTRATION PAPERS

Your student will bring home a packet of forms on the first day of school. It is very important that you review the pertinent information, cross out wrong information, and write in correct information; there will also be forms for you to sign. The permission slip form needing your signature must be returned or your student will not be able to attend field trips to the Kaliseum, the Sand Dunes, Inland Seas, etc. There is also a form giving permission to the Teen Health Corner to be able to transport your child.

Please return the forms as soon as possible. Return even if there are no changes. The first class to turn in 100% by Friday, September 9 will enjoy donuts in the afternoon!

ITEMS NEEDED FOR SCHOOL

Here are some items your child will need for school: book bag, pencils with erasers, pencil bag or container with a trapper keeper, black felt tip pens/fine or medium point, colored pencils and pens.

Pencils will not be provided. Your child will need lots of pencils. They will break them, lose them, loan them or forget them! Students must bring a pencil to class. When they do not have a pencil to write with they cannot do homework or take notes in preparation for testing.

Please, help your student be responsible!!

SPORTS PHYSICALS

All students who participate in a sport must have a physical. The physical needs to be on file with the school office before a student may start practice. The cost to play in any sport is $25.00. If this is a problem, please talk to your child’s coach or Mrs. Swoverland

The Teen Health Corner continues to provide sports/comprehensive physicals year round. You may call them at 258-7791 for an appointment.
