Free time

British teenagers do a lot of different things in their free time. But what are their favourite free-time activities? Are they TV addicts or is sport their passion? Read the text and find out!

Technology

A lot of British teens spend their free time at home. They watch TV, listen to music and play on games consoles. The Internet is also very popular with teens. They often surf the Internet, download music and visit social networking sites, for example Facebook. Incredibly, some teens do these activities for about five hours a day!

Sport

Sport is also a popular free-time activity. Some teens do sport at school and some go to sports clubs outside of school. Girls often swim and boys usually play football. Skateboarding is also a popular sport for boys.

After-school clubs

Some British teenagers spend their free time at school! This is because a lot of secondary schools in the UK often have after-school clubs. The clubs are usually free and the activities include choir, dance, drama, book club and computer club. Some schools have more unusual clubs, for example photography, cooking and yoga. Teachers at the schools usually organise the clubs, but parents sometimes help, too.

Rosie, 13, London

Kabir, 14, Birmingham

`I go to a skateboard club in my local sports centre. It's brilliant! I always skateboard for about an hour and I learn special tricks and jumps.'

Beth, 14, Manchester

`I never watch TV, but I often play games on my games console. I also use my laptop in the evenings and chat to my friends on the Internet.'
