SHRUB ROSES

Shrub Roses are generally hardier than other types of roses. All

are robust, easily grown, and often bloom recurrently. The flowers are showy and frequently produced in vast profusion.

GROUNDCOVER ROSES

QUICK TIPS FOR PLANTING CONTAINER ROSES

1) Plant container roses in the spring after all danger of frost has passed.

2) Choose the right site. Roses like full sun (at least 6 hours of sunlight a day).

3) Prepare the soil well. Roses like rich, loamy, well-drained soil. Work several spades full of compost into the planting hole and dig down to a depth of 2 feet.

4) Carefully remove the rose from it's container and plant in the hole. Position it so the soil level of the rose matches the soil level of the surrounding soil.

5) Make a moat-like ring around the rose to pool water.

6) Water well.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION:

Get your roses off to a great start by working a slow-release granular fertilizer into the planting hole. This should take care of all your roses’ nutrient needs for an entire planting season.

• Never buy a container rose that has the slightest hint of disease. It should look outrageously healthy. Choose roses with no wilting, yellowing, or dropped leaves and absolutely no black spots, rusty spots, or dusty gray powdery mildew.

• Roses can be planted alone or with companion perennials. Be sure to give your roses enough room to mature and fill out.

• Plant your roses where falling ice and snow will not damage plants.
