THE PACESETTER: The Los Angeles office of PricewaterhouseCoopers tops the list of the largest accounting firms operating in Los Angeles County. The New York firm reported 1,662 accounting professionals in its local office. That's up from 1,610 accounting professionals a year ago. Overall, the local office employs 1,856 people excluding support staff.

GROWTH: In January, Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt acquired Zeiger & Associates, a CPA firm located in Northern California that provides tax services to the real estate industry.

ALIGNED: In January, CBIZ and Mayer Hoffman McCann realigned their seven Southern California offices. The move consolidated leadership and formed the companies' largest single business unit after operating as separate entities.

OFFICE: SingerLewak acquired Denver firm Stark Schenkein last year. The office is now operating under the SingerLewak name.
