Study of surface plates, straight edges, angle plate, V-block etc - use of desiccants, corrosion preventing coatings etc. Determination of wear and coefficient of friction of the given specimen using pin on disc tester.Measurement of tool angles of single point tool using tool maker’s microscope. Measurement of out of roundness using roundness measuring instrument - V block and dial indicator etc. - reasons for out of roundness etc. Measurement of gear parameters using profile projector.Solid modeling: part creation, surface generation and assemblies of parts.Study and programming of CNC production machines. Student Learning Outcomes:On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:1. Recall the basics of Precision engineering and machining process.2. Explain the concepts of accuracy of machine tools.3. Apply the general principles of micro-machining like Electro Discharge Machining and wire EDM.4. Demonstrate the use of simulation software to design and analyze the precision mechanical system.5. Analyze the precision measuring systems like LASER interferometer and Optoelectronic measuring system.6. Examine Nano positioning systems of Nano Accuracy and Repeatability.7. Design the conceptual solution to a precision machine operating in the micro and nano range.8. Evaluate the process performance in laser cutting and also calculate the power requirements.Pedagogy for Course Delivery:A mixture of lectures, group discussions (tutorials), and mini-case studies are used to achieve the objectives of this subject.
