Update Your Email Now! Don’t Miss Anything Important!

If you have not received an email from the Swim Club in a while, it’s time to fix that problem. If you have had the same address for a while, first check your spam folder, as our emails may be there. Most email programs will allow you to adjust your settings to receive multiple recipient emails from selected sites. If that’s not the problem (i.e. you have a newer email address), please send your new address immediately to foresthillsswimclub@. While we are also asking you to include your email address to us on your renewal form, as well, we still need your address ASAP to keep you informed this winter and spring regarding progress with respect to the fire restoration, Spring Cleaning, swim team news, etc. Just send a blank email to the address above if you haven’t been receiving our emails and you’re back in the loop!

Spring Cleaning and Open House are just around the corner!

Once again this year, we have two important events that happen before the pool opens. On the weekends of April 29 and 30, as well as May 4 and 5, we will have our annual Spring Cleaning (tentative, confirmation will be sent out). This is an excellent time for members to get together and make our Club look its best, as well as being a good time for high school kids to earn volunteer hours.

Also, our annual Open House will be scheduled for the weekend of May 18 and 19. Please invite your friends and neighbors so we can continue to keep our club strong!

You can also receive a $50 incentive check from the Swim Club by referring a new family ($25 for a couple) to the Club by June 30. • Swim Club Numbers—Membership Information 307-7724; Pool’s Front Desk 474-0574

Membership Payment Information

The last two pages of this Newsletter are your Membership Renewal Form and the Emergency Health Information Form. Please send BOTH of these forms along with your payment to the address indicated on the payment form. Also, please include a current email address(s), as this is our primary method of communication during the season.

Membership dues are paid at either an initiated or non-initiated rate. To be an initiated member, a family needs to pay the initiation fee of $500, either up front the first year at the discounted rate of $400, or in four yearly installments added to the normal dues. If your family joined the Club in 2010 or after and did not pay the initiation fees up front, pay at the non-initiated rate.

Celebrating 45 Years!

Celebrating Our 41st Year!

Welcome to the 45th year of the Forest Hills Swim Club and the commencement of the 2013 season! As all of you are aware, a few months ago the pump house caught fire and since the night of the fire, our goal has been to open Memorial Weekend and that continues to be our goal.

At this point, we have been given full authorization from the insurance company to begin the demo process and move forward with vendor selections for the building and pump/filtration operation. We are also in the process of making purchases of items that were stored in or near the pump house such as diving boards, rails, life guard chairs and a host of other items.

Again, the board along with Managers, Phil, Carrie and Andrew will be working diligently to make sure we have all of the items in place to operate the club as we have done in the past. I do want to especially commend the assistance of both Phil and Carrie during this process as both of them have been at our side assisting in all capacities from recreating drawings of the pump filtration system to creating a book that documents all of the activities that took place the night of the fire and everything else that has happened since that night. Both have been a great help and I would applaud them and thank them when you see them on Memorial Weekend!

Without further ado, I want to welcome our 2013 Forest Hills Swim Club Board; Tom Turchiano (President), Bernie Maloney (Vice-President), Jack Glynn (Treasurer), Jerry Moody (Secretary),Mike Grimes (Swim and Dive), Mike Teter (Grounds and Facilities), Christy Colglazier (Membership), Theresa Burke (Entertainment), and Curtis Chandler (At-Large Member). In addition, I want to acknowledge our managers, Phil VonHertsenberg, Carrie Mayne and Andrew Campbell. All three of the managers attend board meetings to provide insight/ feedback and act as Ex-Officio Board Members but do not have voting privileges. I also want to thank the following for their time serving the board, Jamie Schlosser, Julie Kunklemoller and Linda Smith.

2012 was a banner year for the Forest Hills Swim Club. We had over 210 memberships which equates to a 20% increase over the past three years. Our goal for the 2013 season will be 215 memberships. If you have a family in your neighborhood that has interest in joining, please remember to have them write you down as a referral. Every referral will give you a $50.00 cash back incentive. As you know, we truly rely on referrals as we do not have an extensive budget to market our club. There is nothing better than bringing more of your friends to the club so that they too can see what we are all about! Continue talking to all of your friends as there is no limit to the amount of incentives you can earn. Please note that the referral program ends on June 30, 2013!

As a reminder, if you have not “FRIENDED” the Forest Hills Swim Club FACEBOOK page, please do so! This will keep you up to date on what is happening at the swim club on a weekly basis!

2013 will certainly be a fun filled year at the Forest Hills Swim Club and with that in mind, we have kept the fees the same as 2012 In addition, we are continuing our early payment incentive program. This year if you pay your $250.00 deposit prior to March 31st, you will receive 1-Family pass and 4-single guest passes, a value of nearly $35.00! The Forest Hills Swim Club will continue to remain as the most affordable and most accommodating club in Anderson Township!

In addition, you can create your own payment plan to make our club more affordable for your family. No matter how you decide to pay off your dues, you are able to create a payment plan that works for you! The only thing we ask is to have your complete dues paid for by NO LATER than May 15th! If you make a payment after the May 15th deadline, you will be given a late notice as well as having to pay a $25.00 late fee. We feel that our flex payment plans give people the opportunity to create their own payment plan and make it affordable for anyone to join our club.

Where else can you have fun in the sun with your friends and know that your kids are in a safe family friendly environment? Come celebrate the summer of 2013 with us! Overall, we feel that our Forest Hills Swim Club is the best value in the area!

If any of you have any questions or would like to get more information, please feel free to contact me via email at president@. We certainly look forward to seeing all of you in 2013 and hope that each of you has a great New Year, a Sensational Spring and a Sunny Summer.

See you at the pool!

Sincerely,

Tom Turchiano, President

Letter from the President, Tom Turchiano

Do you want your kid to make friends and get exercise this summer?

The Sharks Swim and Dive Teams are the answer!

Be a part of a winning team!

Create summer memories that will last a lifetime! Join the Sharks!!!

Being a Shark is a great way to experience summer competitive swimming/diving. Whether your son/daughter is a new or an experienced swimmer/diver, there is a level of competition for him/her on the Forest Hills Swim and Dive Team. For those returning Sharks, get ready! You know that a summer of fun memories will be here before you know it.

Swimming is a terrific means of physical fitness and an opportunity to make lifelong friendships, far beyond the summer months by the pool. Ask some of our older swimmers. Their allegiance to the team’s legacy runs very deep. Our divers strive to learn, improve and challenge themselves at every age. Please join our spirited team for the exciting ’12 summer season filled with activities, team spirit and competition in the pool.

Shark Registration and Suit Up Day is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th at the swim club anytime between 5 p.m. to 7:30 pm. Registration, practice and meet schedules can be found and downloaded from the Forest Hills website very soon. () This year, we will have the same suit as last year (dark blue solid suit with the Forest Hills Swim Club Crest) however Kastaway Swimwear will be at the club for families that need to get a new suit or any other swimming equipment. Coaches will also be there to tell you more about our awesome program. Please email, Mike Grimes (Swim/Dive Coordinator) with any questions you have.

As part of our policy all swimmers/divers have to be registered and team fees be paid prior to entering practice. Of course, fees will be fully refundable until the first meet. This will help tremendously with entering the correct data for swim/dive team lineups. PAYMENTS MUST BE TURNED IN AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. Make checks payable to Forest Hills Swim Club.

We welcome any registered member that is 18 years of age or younger, by June 1, 2013. The swimmer should be able to swim a continuous length of the pool using a legal stroke. Daily swimming training will consist of building endurance, competitive stroke techniques, start, turns and finishes. Swim lessons are still encouraged for more individual stroke instruction. Our Diving coaches provide diving instructions for all levels.

Practice days are Mondays through Fridays. Meets are during the afternoon and evening. Practice times will be announced at the Suit up and posted on the swim team bulletin board. Afternoon practice sessions begin Tuesday, May 28th. For Elementary and Middle school children morning practices will begin Thursday May 30th and High school students on Friday May 31st. Sharks are expected to take their commitment seriously and attend practices whenever possible. Parents are asked to contribute to the bake sales (Shark Bites) that will be held at all home meets. In addition, we rely heavily on the volunteer efforts of our parents and you will be expected to help at several meets. We will also have sign ups for additional help that is needed to furnish treats and other social events sponsored by the team at Suit-up day and on the swim and dive team bulletin boards.

The fee for each team member is $80 for one sport with a family cap of $235. $20 per child for a second sport, which is in addition to the $235 family cap (3 children diving= $235 + one of them also swimming adds an additional $20 = $255 total). This cost is for 7 weeks of instruction; 7 Hills Swim League fee; meet ribbons, candy for meets and team spirit events, a Spirit-wear t-shirt, team cap, t-shirts for retiring Sharks, supplies for practice activities, practice equipment, awards and the season end banquet.
