Father's Day Prayer of Remembering

"Fathers young, fathers old

Remembering good times are our gold.

Value earned through guidance given

Helping us go forth in livin'.

Each father adding to our trove

A treasure chest of love untold.

Remembering fathers in our lives

Taking time to realize.

Fatherly love brings wealth to living

Remembering this, we go forth in giving.

Fathers young, fathers old

We remember you all

As life unfolds."

Happy Father’s Day!!

The deadline to register for next year’s program is June 30, 2009. Registered families will receive further information in late August with class information and starting dates.

YOUTH GROUP

Our Tuesday evening youth group continues to meet each week at 7pm in St. Andrew’s Hall on the second floor of St. Catherine’s Convent. All high school students are welcome to join us. Doors open at 6pm. This meeting has been a great success with 20 to 25 students attending weekly. We are always looking for new high school members!

MIDDLE SCHOOL HARBOR CRUISE and DANCE

Join us Monday, June 29th for the Archdiocesan’s Annual Middle School Harbor Cruise and Dance. We will meet at St. Catherine’s at 6 PM, and be returning at 11 PM. The cost of the event is $20. Please contact Frank at the YFM Office to reserve a spot.

WHITE WATER RAFTING

Plans are underway for this summer’s White Water Rafting trip in Maine. This annual favorite will take place on the weekend of June 27 and 28. The cost of this year’s trip is $90. Contact the Youth Office to reserve your spot. The deadline to register is June 22.

MATTHEW 25

Students are invited to join us for this year’s Matthew 25 Program, which will take place immediately following Vacation Bible School, July 20 through 24. Last summer the YFM group assisted many parishioners around Norwood. We will again be planning to do similar work in the parish community. Students wishing to join us should sign up by contacting the YFM Office. Seniors who have minor repair projects and painting should contact Frank Connell at 617-792-3433 or Margaret Hayes at 781-762-2903 to reserve a crew for the summer.

GOSPEL ROAD

For this summer, we are bringing back, and revitalizing a very unique weeklong service program known as Gospel Road. The project will run from Sunday evening, July 26 until Friday afternoon, July 31. This program had great popularity in the Archdiocese years ago and was very popular at St. Timothy’s and St. Catherine’s as well. I am looking for both students and parents who would be interested in assisting with any one of the many aspects of this program. Please contact the YFM Office at 617-792-3433. With the economy still very unstable, and families having to tighten budgets, this is the YFM’s alternative to an out-of-state service trip. The deadline to register for this service week is Monday, July 13.

Dear friends—

A heartfelt thank you to all those who contributed to the collection for the retired and disabled priests of the Archdiocese. Since some donations are still coming in, we will give you a complete amount of donations next week.

Last Tuesday, Fr. Emerson and I attended another meeting to bring us up to date about how the Archdiocese plans to stabilize these funds in the future. As we all know, health care is a huge expense in today’s world, and as the number of priests in the Archdiocese continues to age, health and retirement costs will continue to increase. Difficult decisions have been made and will continue to be made in the future. As painful as these decisions are, I do believe that for the first time in a long time the individuals who are working on these funds have the knowledge and expertise to help put these funds on a more secure footing in the future. Again, your help is critical and your support is deeply appreciated.

Special Needs Day will be held on Saturday, June 27. There are many ways all of us can help. If you do want to assist, we ask that you drop off the volunteer forms this week so the planning committee can finalize the many details for the day.

On Friday, June 26 we are hosting an appreciation reception for parish volunteers. Invitations have been sent out. If for some reason you are a volunteer and did not receive an invitation, please contact the office. Also, if you have not responded to the invitation as yet, please do so ASAP,so that we can better prepare for that event.

Last Sunday about 50 of our young parishioners who serve Mass or sing in the youth choirs had their “appreciation” event at Canobie Lake Park in New Hampshire. Since the day was overcast, the park was less filled than usual, so the kids could get on ride after ride with no waiting in lines. I did accompany the kids on a few rides but no amount of coaxing could get me on the “Ultimate Frisbee”. I find that I used to have a stronger stomach for those types of rides. I hope this is not one more sign of old age creeping up on me.

Have a great week.

Fr. Culloty
