ASSESSESSING STUDENT PERFORMANCE: (initials)

Teachers present skills and concepts known as Learning Targets and teach students how to do them.

Learning Targets are aligned with California State Standards and the National Standards for Physical Education and represent what students should know and be able to do in PE. Students practice in a variety of ways then perform the Learning Targets. Student performance is observed through demonstration of skill, knowledge of fitness concepts through questioning and presentation of social behaviors in activities and games. Rubrics are referenced to assess levels of performance. Over the course of the school year, students are expected to move toward Mastery of all Learning Targets for performance. Students can expect to participate in self, peer and teacher in-class ASSESSMENTS for performance feedback. The following LEARNING TARGETS are ASSESSED:

ACADEMIC GRADE: (initials)

The ACADEMIC GRADE will reflect Mastery of the Learning Targets according to a Rubric during Assessments completed in class. Points earned during assessment are recorded in Schoology. Schoology calculates points and converts MASTERY level points to an ACADEMIC grade A, B, C or D. The points are cumulative over an entire semester resulting in a FINAL semester grade. Student progress is reported in a PROGRESS REPORT every 5 weeks. Roughly speaking, “A” is Mastery above grade level. “B” is proficient for grade level. “C” is beginning grade-level. “D” is below-grade level. The SKILL/CONCEPT RUBRIC is shown here:

WORK HABITS GRADE/COOPERATION GRADE: (initials)

WORK HABITS and COOPERATION GRADES are based on assessments of daily responsibility and social interactions in the locker room, on the yard and during class and according to a Rubric. Student Work Habits and Cooperation are recorded within a 5 week grading period and then refresh. The progress of these marks are taken in to consideration for the FINAL semester marks. Work Habits and Cooperation points DO NOT affect the Academic Grade and are translated as E, S or U. The RUBRICS are shown here:
