School for Legal Practice

The School for Legal Practice provides you with a unique training opportunity that will enable you to reduce the duration of your practical vocational training (PVT) contract to one year instead of two by covering the whole ambit of the Attorneys' Admission Examination. Presented by esteemed practitioners renowned for their practical experience and expertise in various fields of law, the School aims to provide you with further applied skills in legal practice, thereby also improving access to the legal profession.

Admission requirements
Prospective delegates should have an LLB Degree obtained or to be completed before commencement of the school, or a Law degree completed in a foreign country recognised by SAQA as equivalent to S.A. LLB law degree.

Lectures are presented on the Hatfield Campus of the University of Pretoria. Lectures take place from Mondays to Thursdays at 17:30, and on selected Saturday mornings.
Course content
The School of Legal Practice semester course covers the entire content of the attorneys' admission examination. The course is presented by practitioners who are known for their experience and expertise in the field. The programme is standardized and uniform throughout South Africa and comprises of the following modules consisting of 400 notional hours in total:
? Alternative Dispute Resolution ? Attorneys' Bookkeeping ? Constitutional Practice ? Criminal Court Practice ? Drafting of Contracts ? High Court Practice ? Magistrate's Court Practice ? Cyber Law ? Personal Injury Claims ? Wills and Estates ? Labour Dispute Resolution ? Matrimonial Law ? Professional Legal Ethics ? Legal Costs ? General Practice
Accreditation and certification
Enterprises University of Pretoria (Pty) Ltd is wholly owned by the University of Pretoria. As a public higher education institution, the University of Pretoria functions in accordance with the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997. Enterprises University of Pretoria offers the School for Legal Practice, and it is accredited by the Legal Practice Council in terms of the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014 (as amended). Delegates who successfully complete the School for Legal Practice and comply with the related assessment criteria are awarded certificates of successful completion and/or attendance by the University of Pretoria.
