DAREarts Program

On DAREarts Grade Six Literature Day, the class was welcomed to the Osborne Collection at the Lillian Smith Library by children’s librarian Jen. Jen shared many books and stories with the delegates, leading us through the history and common themes of English-language children’s literature. The delegates were enthralled with the intricate pop-up books showcased! Afterward, the class explored R.J. Palacio’s modern fable novel Wonder, which sparked insights on the themes of kindness, acceptance, family, courage, friendship, and bullying. In pairs, the delegates used this inspiration to determine an act of courage and an act of kindness that they can achieve as young leaders. The class then used excerpts from Wonder to learn about character perspectives.

Eco- Club Tip of the Week: It’s winter and it’s dark. Don’t forget to shut those

lights off when you leave the room!

Pizza Sales at SMS

Hello Smithfield,

The leadership team would like to remind you that we will continue to sell pizza every Friday, one slice for $1.50 and two for $2.50. So far, we have raised $1,000! The grade 8 leadership team has worked very hard to reach our goal. All money raised will go towards grade 8 graduation activities. Keep up the good work, Smithfield leaders!
