Object & the Letter!

Dear Parents:

We have been working really hard at school on learning our letter names and the

letter sounds. One way we have been working on these letters is through reviewing our

ABC Chart & ABC Coloring Book. Coming home today is a copy of the ¡°ABC CHART¡± ¡­. Keep

this chart in a safe place at home to review the letter & sound.

Please take some time each night to review this chart with your child ¡­ reviewing the

letter names, the letter sounds, and objects that start with the letter. As we review the

chart/ coloring book we say a special chant (see below). Also, below you will find some

other activities that you could do with your child to help them learn the letter names and

the sound of each letter.

It is very important that your child learn these skills because they are the

foundation for reading & writing!! This activity is just another way to help you help your

child at home!!

ABC CHANT:

Go through the ABC Chart going through Aa-Zz ¡­ we say the sound 3 times, then name the

object and say the object.

EX: /a/ - /a/ - /a/ ¡­¡­¡­ APPLE ¡­¡­¡­¡­. Aa

(say the sound 3 times)

(say the object)

(say the letter name)

/b/ - /b/ - /b/ ¡­¡­¡­ BUTTERFLY ¡­¡­¡­¡­. Bb

(say the sound 3 times)

(say the object)

(say the letter name)

? Continue with the other letters of the alphabet

ABC Activities to do at home:

? Say the letter names ¡­ OUT OF ORDER ¡­ using flash cards, finding letters in a

book, etc.

? Produce (child says) the letter sounds when shown a specific letter ¡­. Have them

recall an object that starts with that letter.

? Have your child attempt to write an unknown word using their sounds.

? Have your child sort a group of pictures ¡­. matching the picture to the correct

letter the object begins with.
