TEACH
Review students' answers to the Bellringer questions. Then tell students that in this section they will learn about the creation of the Constitution. Read aloud the paragraphs under "Who were the Framers?" Ask students whether any of the facts about the Framers surprised them. Tell them that the average age of the delegates was only 42 and many were only in their 30s. Discuss the various compromises the Framers reached and the fact that their diverse backgrounds and motivations made those compromises necessary.
Ask:
? Where does most of the information we have about the Constitutional Convention come from? (James Madison's record of the events)
Learning Styles: Interpersonal/Group Learning
Have students review the information about the Great Compromise and remind them that this compromise led to our current congressional organization. Organize the class into small groups, one half of the groups in favor of the Great Compromise and one half against it. Have each group prepare arguments, and stage a class debate about whether or not this compromise best serves the nation and its people.
