Book Projects and Reports Guidelines and informationThis information is also on my website: ruppesroom.Complete 2 from the books listed belowComplete 2 from books that are on your Lexile level Lexile LevelsResearch has indicated that students who read independently at a Lexile level of 900 or higher, have a greater chance of making a LEVEL 4/5 on the test; therefore, I will be pushing your child to reach for his/her utmost levels of reading this year. Following are websites to help you better understand how Lexiles work and also how Lexile book levels are determined. Most of our library books at Englewood have Lexile levels written inside the front cover.Link: Link: – At the top of this page is a link that will allow students to put in a book title in order to find the Lexile level for it. Look for the Quick Book Search in the top right corner.Your student has been given his/her Lexile level and will be asked to read close to and above that level. Below are the Lexile levels given for your child’s grade level. We want to get to the higher ends of the “Stretch” band.Current 4th/5th grade band – 645L – 845L“Stretch” 4th /5th grade band - 740L – 1010LPlease be aware that students who have Lexiles in the upper ranges (1100-1200) may find it more difficult to find books that are age-appropriate. Please help your son or daughter to find books that are appropriate for them. Each nine weeks, students must complete a book report AND project for a book chosen from the given list and within their Lexile levels. I am sending home a book report planning form to help students gather pertinent information about their book. They should use this to plan the book report. Just filling out the form is NOT a report and will not be graded as such. I am also sending home a Book Report Rubric as well as a Book Project Rubric by which the students will be graded. These document are also on my website under the Book Report/Project tab.Students may select a project from the attached project possibilities list or may come up with an idea of their own. If a student chooses to do something not on the list, please discuss it with me prior to beginning it.Link: Book Project PossibilitiesStudents will receive two grades for these assignments – one for the report and one for the project.Book Report/ Project Due Dates:October 12th?December 7thMarch 8thMay 17thReading List OneStudents should choose?two?of these books to complete for a report/project for two of the six weeks. ?These books are recommended from the Federal Common Core Standards. ??Alice’s Adventures in WonderlandLewis CarrollThe Secret Garden Frances Hodgson BurnettThe Black Stallion Walter FarleyThe Little Prince Antoine de Saint-ExupéryTuck EverlastingNatalie BabbittZlateh the Goat Isaac Bashevis SingerM.C.
