The following categories have been chosen and the template has been designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of new teachers and allow all their needs to be met along with encouraging them to remain in their job positions. This click and fill form makes it easy to provide the important information that schools need to support their new teachers. The idea is for as much information to be provided as possible with as little clutter to the document. For example, provide hyperlink URLs whenever possible to make the document interactive and to ensure that all information is being disclosed. Please review the following for the best practices on filling out this form effectively. SCHOOL INFORMATION: It is very important that the new teacher know the general information about your school to make sure they know if it is a good fit for them. Stating your mission, vision, goals, and values first can allow the new teacher time to identify with the school before moving forward (Iordanides & Vryoni, 2013; Lambeth, 2012; McCullough, 2008). School Name – Click into the box provided and enter the school’s name.Address – Click into the box provided and type in the school’s address.Phone – Click into the box provided and enter the school’s phone number.Website – Click into the box provided and paste the hyperlink URL to your school’s website (i.e. ).Mission – Click into the box provided and insert your school’s mission statement.Vision – Click into the box provided and enter the visions of your school.Goals – Click into the box provided and insert the goals of your school.Values – Click into the box provided and enter the values of your school.BELL SCHEDULE: The bell schedule lets the new teacher know up front the hours of the school and the length of classes. In addition, it provides information about the school such as if you are a school that does block scheduling. Click the fillable box for an image and upload a picture of the bell schedule for your school.GET INVOLVED: The retention of new teachers is very low (Donaldson & Johnson, 2011; Feistritzer, 1998; Graziano, 2014; Iserotope, 2013). It has been proven that the more involved a new teacher is in their school the more likely they are to stay around and the happier they find their work environment. Therefore, sharing information early about what types of activities they can get involved in is important (Iordanides & Vryoni, 2013; Fry, 2007). School Calendar – Click into the box provided and either paste the hyperlink URL for your school calendar or insert the information on where the new teacher may be able to find this information on your school’s network or website (Romano & Gibson, 2006).Extra-Curricular Activities – Click into the box provided and either paste the hyperlink URL for your school’s list of extra-curricular activities or insert the information on where the new teacher may be able to find this information on your school’s network or website.Athletics – Click into the box provided and either paste the hyperlink URL for your athletic programs or insert the information on where the new teacher may be able to find this information on your school’s network or website.MENTORS: This has been defined as one of the most important pieces of information for new teachers (Fry, 2007; Graziano, 2014; Lambeth, 2012; Laciereno-Paquet, Bocala, Fonius, & Phillips, 2012; Smith 2011; Wiebke & Bardin, 2009). This section gives them a contact person that they will be able to utilize during their adjustment. General – In the first box place the name of the general mentor for your school such as the new teacher mentoring coordinator. In the second and third boxes place the phone number and email address where this person can be contacted.
