Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour awards over $45,000 to junior golf in 2014

Vancouver, BC - (November 3, 2014) - The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s number one-played junior tour and the ‘Road to College Golf’ for aspiring young players, is pleased to announce that the non-profit program has once again distributed over $45,000 to young golfers in scholarships, donations and international event funding in 2014.

Some of the players on the program who benefitted from scholarships, funding and awards this season include Emily Creaser of Edmonton, AB, winner of the $1,000 MJT Cleveland Golf Canada Scholarship, together with the other scholarship recipients Andrew Chelack of Calgary, AB, Izac Silagy of Winnipeg, MB, Tyler Vandermeer of Ardrossan, AB, Cory Sawchuk of Prince Albert, SK, Marcus Brown of Surrey, BC, Chris Murray of Calgary, AB, and Rachel Clark of Edmonton, AB.

The MJT is also distributing $12,000 among the provincial MJT Cleveland Golf Order of Merit division winners to assist with expenses of attending the MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship at The Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, AZ, November 14-16, 2014. The provincial winners are:

British Columbia: Raymond Li of Vancouver, Taylor Patrick of Surrey, Edward Metcalfe of Surrey (who receives $1,000 in memory of former MJT player, Dylan Reichelt), Sarah Lawrence (Duvall, WA State)

Alberta: Ronnie Postnikoff of Medicine Hat, Scott Walker of Calgary, Andrew Chelack of Calgary, Emily Creaser of Edmonton

Saskatchewan: Jordan Bean of Saskatoon, Matt Bean of Saskatoon, Justin Wood of Unity, Chloe Sies of Melville

Manitoba: Marco Trstenjak of Winnipeg, Cameron McIntyre of Winnipeg, Aaron McIntyre of Winnipeg, Mckyla Poponick of Selkirk

Regarding the 2014 MJT Cleveland Golf Players of the Year, four juniors were recognized based on their scoring averages in a required minimum number of MJT tournaments in their respective division across the country. The MJT Bantam Boys 14 and under Player of the Year is Andrew Spalti of Vancouver, BC, a junior member at Shaughnessy Golf Club. MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 MJT Player of the Year is Adam Veenstra of Smithers, BC, a member at Smithers Golf and Country Club. Adam Graham of Sarnia, ON, who plays out of Sarnia Golf and Country Club, is the Player of the Year for MJT Junior Boys 17-19 across Canada, and the national MJT Girls Player of the Year title goes to Alisha Lau of Richmond, BC, who is a junior member at Quilchena Golf Club.

Annual awards, scholarships and frequent player incentives help reward player's performance and participation throughout each season, and the MJT is proud to play a role in developing Canadian champions – in golf and in life – with 60 events across Canada including the Ford Go Golf introductory clinics, high-level single and multi-day tournaments, international qualifiers and more. MJT alumni include many Professional Tour players and PGA of Canada Professionals, as well as Canadian Amateur, National and Provincial Junior Champions.
