□ there was the shocking place of birth.

□ Jesus was not born in comfortable surroundings

□ He was born in a stable and laid in a manger or feeding trough.

□ The birth is covered in one simple verse, yet much can be gleaned from it.

I. Jesus was born in a smelly stable.

A. He was neglected and turned away by men from the very beginning.

B. There was no room in the inn and Mary was about to deliver.

C. If someone had cared, room could have been made for her.

II. Jesus was born in poverty.

A. If Joseph had possessed the money, he could have bought a room.

III. Jesus was born in shadows and loneliness.

A. The birth took place away from people, all alone.

B. Note that Mary herself wrapped the child in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger.

IV. Jesus was born in humiliation.

A. He did not enter the world...

1. in a hospital,

2. in a comfortable home,

3. in the home of a friend or relative,

4. under a doctor's care,

5. under the stars of heaven, nor even out in the open,

6. but in a smelly stable, the lowest imaginable place for a birth.

V. Jesus was born into a corruptible world

A. full of sin and selfishness, greed and unkindness.

B. This is seen in that...

1.  the world (represented in the innkeeper)

a. was so wrapped up in its affairs that it could not help a woman bearing a child.

2.  (THE SELFISHNESS) no one would make room for Mary in the inn.

a. Money and personal comfort were more important to all who had become aware of the situation.

□ MANY MISSED THE COMING OF CHRIST AT HIS BIRTH MANY WILL BE UNAWARE OF THE LORDS RETURN

□ Luke 21:34 (King James Version)

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

□ HOW WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE ROOM FOR THE SAVIOR

□ Titus 2:12-13 (King James Version)

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

□ Revelation 3:20 (King James Version)

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
