Human Growth and Development Course Syllabus 2018-2019Mr. Jason Thorne EMT-PMabank High School Room 303Email: jethorne@ School Phone: (903) 880 1600 ext. 2303 Course Description: Human Growth and Development is an examination of human development across the lifespan with emphasis upon research, theoretical perspectives, and common physical, cognitive, emotional, and social developmental milestones. The course covers material that is generally taught in a postsecondary, one-semester introductory course in developmental psychology or human development. Scope and Sequence: During this course the students will: Understand historical, theoretical, and research perspectives of Human Growth and Dev Understand the importance of prenatal care in the development of a child Understand the development of children ages newborn through two years Understand the development of children ages three through five years Understand the development of children ages six through ten years Understand the development of adolescents ages 11 through 19 years Understand the importance of care and protection of children Understand the development of adults ages 20 through 39 years Understand the development of adults ages 40 through 65 years Understand the development of adults ages 66 years and older Understand the skills necessary for career preparation Course Resources: Google Classroom: You will need to enroll yourself in the Google Classroom Course Human Growth and Development, Period ___. Your class enrollment code is _____. On this site you will find assignments, PowerPoints and important course information. This site will also be used to turn in assignments. You will be trained in class on how to use Google Classrooms. Textbook: Lifespan Development 2nd Edition, by Sharleen L. Kato Materials: A Computer or an electronic device is required on a daily basis for class. Please have your computer with you when class begins. Course Folder- 2- 3 subject spiralsPaper and Pen/Pencil Extra materials may be required for class projects. Grading Standards and Methods: Each nine-week average will be comprised of the following: Daily Grades: 30% o Daily Activities, Daily Journals, and Classroom Activities Test Grades: 70% o Quizzes, Test, and Projects Points will be deducted for all late work and students will be informed of this with each assignment. When a student is absent he or she will have the number of days missed plus one to make up work. It will be the responsibility of the student to find out what make up work needs to be completed upon returning to school. Teaching and Learning Strategies: Teaching strategies and learning strategies will include (but not limited to) whole class instruction, small group instruction, peer teaching, group projects, independent research projects, Google Classroom, news article readings, and class discussions. Computers: Students will be required to have a computer/electronic device and charger for class on a daily basis. Students need to log in and check their Gmail and Google Classroom daily. All assignments will be shared with students using Google Classroom and students will turn in documents and assignments using this application. I will train student during class on the process of using this application. Classroom Expectations: Respect for everyone and everything!
