PartitioningPartitioning means simply to divide. In this case to partition a hard drive we are simply separating a mass of space into partitions. A HDD has to have at least one partition before you can use it and this must be formatted before you can use your O/System. For example if you were to have a 120GB hard drive you could partition 40 GB for one and 80 GB for the other. This will then become a multiple logical storage drive. A hard drive will allow the user to partition into four separate drives which will be allocated a drive letter for each one. There is a maximum amount of only four partitions on a hard drive unless you allocate the fourth partition as an extended partition. These are called primary partitions. You can then have up to twenty four logical partitions in your extended partition. This will allow you to use different file systems on one HDD. You will need at least one partition on your HDD for your file system. Each user has partitions for different reasons depending on what you want your partition to contain. They can be used for multiple operating systems without interfering with each other, or you may want to store personal files, images, music or photos separately from your applications. A HDD with two partitions is known as dual boot system, a HDD with multiple O/Systems is known as a multi-boot HDD. Once a partition has been deleted every bit of information held on that partition is deleted so be sure your files are backed up or all your dada and files will be lost. There are many disk partitioning software available if this is something that you want to do. There is a program in windows XP which allows you to partition your HDDThere is also many different partitioning software available these days depending on O/S or software that people use.centertop120653809365centertop120653809365centertop04589145centertop04589145centertop04589145centertop04589145centertop04589145centertop04589145centertop04589145centertopcentertop04589145centertop04589145centertop04589145centertop04589145 ................
