Current Events Homework Assignment

Worth 100 points

For homework, you are to complete a Current Events assignment. This is a short yet extremely important activity for this class. Doing these regularly will keep you up-to-date on important events in the United States and the rest of the world, and will help you to connect the information we are learning in class to what is happening in the real world right now.

On the assigned due dates, students will be chosen at random to share their current event to the class; this will count as both a homework grade and participation grade (for those who present) for that day.

For each assignment, you will need to turn in:

1. A print-out or copy of the news article (10% of grade)

2. A write-up or summary of the article (90% of grade)

You must include the following information from your news article to receive full credit for the

Current Events assignment:

1. Your name, the due date, and your class period need to be in the top left corner of your paper.

2. Find a news or magazine article online or in a newspaper that is relevant to our class.

3. At the top of your paper, identify the basic source information of the article:

Title, date published, author, and publisher (name of newspaper or magazine).

4. Read the article and determine: (you may write it in list form)

a. Who: who or what is the article about? Who is (are) the main subjects of the article?

b. What: what is happening or going on with the subject?

c. When: when did this happen? Is it ongoing?

d. Where: the location of the event (state, city, region, country, etc.)

e. Why/Significance: why is this information relevant or important? How does this relate to the subject matter of our class?

5. Be prepared to share your story with the class.
