Class Agenda:
Reading –Students will practice using a variety of reading strategies to improve nonfiction comprehension. Students will read and research famous Americans during the Revolutionary and Civil War. There is a new Reading Log and students are to keep a list of books they have finished with the number of pages and reading level. The goal is to read at home 30 minutes and day to complete reading 10 books this quarter.
Writing –Written Word Study homework on Monday to Wednesday with a Word Study test on Friday. Students will compose, edit and publish a descriptive multi paragraph essay on their favorite or best snow day.
Math –Fraction Unit - Students will add, subtract, compare, simplify, estimate and identify fractions. Weekly math homework and summative quizzes each week on skills. All students are to continue to review Math online with Reflex Math and Dreambox.
VA Studies - Revolutionary War Unit - Chapter 5 - pages 77 -91 in text. Students will identify the colonists conflicts with England, purpose for Declaration of Independence, roles of Virginians and series of battles.
Reminders:
Report Cards - sent home with students on Wednesday, February 8th
Mount Vernon Field Trip - Letter and Permission slips to be sent home. Permission slips and payment due on Feb. 15th. The field trip date is Thursday, March 2nd.
PTO/SCA Food Drive: Mobile Hope - Individual Mac & cheese cups or ravioli cups
Valentine Cards - Students may bring Valentine Cards to school on 2/14. They will be supplied with paper bags to decorate. No boxes or candy to be brought to school. A class list will be sent home. The cards will be passed out at 2:15 on Valentine's Day.
Parents - Please sign planner every day to confirm homework is accurate & complete. Homework is not complete if planner is not signed, is missing or has errors.
Feb. 20 - No School - Presidents Day
