Famous Scientist ProjectDue Friday, January 15, 2016For this project you will research a famous scientist. You will be provided with a list of scientists to choose from. Once your scientist is chosen you will complete your research to find the required information. You will compile this information into both a written project and an oral presentation. For the written project you will be able to choose from several project formats. Written projects will be submitted through Canvas no later than Friday, January 15, 2016. Oral presentations will begin on the same day. We will work on the projects in class but you may need to work on your project outside of school in order to complete it on time. Combined, the written project and oral presentation will be worth 100 points. Facebook page:Use the PowerPoint template to create a Facebook page for your scientist. Make sure to read the requirements in the notes section of the template. Wanted Poster:Basic Requirements:1. Create your poster using poster board, construction paper or using Microsoft Word or Publisher .2. First, middle and last name of your scientist (if applicable)3. Picture of your scientist (cited)4. His/her birthday.5. One sentence of why they are famous or "Wanted."6. Country he or she was born.7. Where he or she did his/her work.8. Date of death or current age if living today.9. His/her accomplishments in your own words: 5-10 complete sentences.10. Name in the bottom RIGHT corner.11. Be colorful and creative!12. A bibliography consisting of websites and/or library materials (on back of poster).?Additional RequirementsChoose 6 of the following requirements to add to your poster:1. A quote by your scientist2. 1-2 additional pictures of your scientist or their work3. A picture of what they worked on, ex Invented telephone4. Where they went to school/college5. If they had any other jobs, ex. teacher, lawyer, doctor, etc...6. Family information: husband/wife, children, parents, brothers, sisters.7. What else was happening in history when the scientist was famous? 8. Did this scientist work with another scientist? Who was it and what did they do?9. Are there any museums or other places named after your scientist?10. Did your scientist publish any books or writing due to their research? What were the titles and what was it about??Biography CubeFor the Biography Cube project you will create a 6-sided cube out of cardstock. On each side you will write the following information1. scientist name, birthday, and deathdate2. what the scientist is famous for3. a picture of the scientist with a caption4. something you found interesting that you did not know about your scientist before5. important facts about your scientist6. a quote by or about the scientistIn addition to the cube you will need to write a paragraph or two explaining the scientist’s contribution and why it is important to us today. You will also need to list your sources. Children’s BookCreate a children’s book about your scientist. Your book should be at least 10 pages long (kid book pages) with illustrations on each page. The illustrations can be drawn, printed from the Internet, or created using collage. The book should contain the required research info the required research information. Your book should have a creative cover and be bound in a creative way (NOT computer paper stapled together.)PlaylistCreate a playlist that represents the different events of your person’s life and contributions. The songs chosen should match your scientist either through lyrics or tone (or both!). A one page typed explanation telling why songs were chosen and what part of your scientist’s life and accomplishments they line up with. In addition to your song list and explanation, you need to find a way to communicate all 10 required research components. You can do this through song choice or by adding a short written summary. A fun way might be to write a song about your scientist to add to your playlist. Only one student may choose each scientist. If there is a person whom you would like to research that is not on the list, check with me first.Find resources from the library, Internet, journals, etc.Take notes as you read, being sure that you acknowledge the information source.Transform your notes into a variety of memoir entries. BE CREATIVE!!!Memoir:Title (pictures, colorful, scientist name, your name, date)Birth Certificate – include birthday, birth place, parents’ names (if available)Journal entries – at least three separate entries written from the perspective of your scientist.Time-Line – Important events in the scientist’s life, including major world events. People Interview – A dialog between a reporter for People Magazine (you) and your scientist describing their research (minimum of 5 questions).Book Cover – Design a book cover for a biography of your scientist.Newspaper Ad – Design an advertisement for your scientist. This could be a job for the scientist, a product created by him/her, etc.Pictures with Captions- pictures of your scientist with written captions My Contributions to the World- a short essay from the perspective of your scientist that describes the contribution(s) he/she made to the world. ................
