Utilizing the Teams General ChannelEach Teams Group is automatically populated with a General channel. This is the main channel for your Teams and all of the functions shown in this tutorial can also be used in other Channels you create for your group. The General Channel is a great way for you to Scheduled Main Class meetings, send messages to the group, and share documents for class. The General Channel will first show up with the POSTS tab when you open your course. The Posts tab is where you can send messages as well as where scheduled meetings and recorded meetings will show up. To send a message you will navigate to the bottom of the screen where there is a text box that says Start a new conversation. This is where you will type messages and send them to students. Below that are a series of icons that allow you to send other forms of messages. This is similar to what you see in the Meeting Chat of a Teams meeting. To expand the text box, you will select the first symbol which is an A with a pen next to it. This will expand the features you have to send a message. To send your message you will select the paper airplane icon on the far right-hand side. In addition, when you’re typing you can TAG the entire Team or a specific member to notify them that a message mentioned them. If you wish to bring something to the group’s attention, then select the @ button on your keyboard and start typing in the group name. When it pops up in the Suggestions box click it and you will see the group name underlined in purple when you send the message. You can also notify the group about other posts such as a Scheduled meeting by using the REPLY button which is located under each message in the Posts section. To attach an image you will select the second icon, the paperclip icon, which will allow you to browse files you have stored on Teams, OneDrive, or your Computer and send them to the group in the Posts section. The following icons allow you to send emojis, GIFS, stickers, or share other videos on Stream. The next icon is the Badges icon which allows you to send Badges to students for a job well done. There are a variety of options to choose from such as Courage, Problem Solver, or Leadership to name a few. The following icons are the Polls and Forms. Both serve the same function to share a Poll with the group. The final option is the Three Dots icon with brings up other Apps and options you have to send a message. Feel free to explore this on your own. To delete a message run your cursor over the message so a set of Emojis and a Three Dots icon show up in a pop-up in the right-hand corner. Select the More Options button (Three Dots icon). The third option in the pop-up list is Delete which will delete the item from other viewers. When you use the Schedule a Meeting feature all of your scheduled meetings will show up in the Posts section of that channel. In addition, each time you host a meeting it will say the date of the meeting and the duration underneath the Scheduled Meeting. If the meeting was recorded, the recordings will also show up under the scheduled meeting to be viewed by members of the Group. At first, they will be processing and then once finish you can select the video and view it. Besides Posts, you start off with 3 other tabs. Files, Class Notebook, and Add a Tab. Each feature does something different. The Files tab allows store files on the Teams site as well as create new documents (Word, PPT, Excel, etc.). Class Notebook or Notes is the next tab which will create a new notebook for the class. To use this feature select Start Collaborating in the center of this tab.
