ALTAMONT READING LIST: GRADE 7OUTSIDE READING 2020-2021The Altamont School has a rich tradition of graduating students who are well-read, curious, and committed to the life-long habit of reading. In addition to the texts and material covered in class, Altamont students are expected to read on their own, outside of class. In keeping with the mission and core values of our school, we believe that reading is one the most vital ways our students gain exposure to worlds and people different than themselves. Thus, The Altamont School maintains high and rigorous expectations when it comes to reading because we believe that reading is critical to producing “compassionate, well-educated individuals who are capable of independent thinking and innovative ideas.”FICTIONThe Night Diary – Veera HiranandaniFish in a Tree – Linda Mullaly HuntLittle Women – Louisa May AlcottThe Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas AdamsMy Antonia – Willa CatherOther Words for Home – Jasmine Warga1984 – George OrwellMy Year in the Middle – Lila Quintero WeaverGhost Boys – Jewell Parker RhodesThe Watsons Go to Birmingham – Christopher Paul CurtisCall of the Wild – Jack LondonThe Hate U Give – Angie ThomasThe Girl Who Drank the Moon – Kelly Barnhill Escape from Aleppo – N.H.
