I wonder how?

Tell the story in your own words. |After a read aloud or shared reading, help the students retell the story with characters, setting, and the important events in sequential order.

After a read aloud, display three or four pictures from the story and ask students if the event happened at the beginning, middle or end.

Use multiple pictures of one item/animal

or topic. Ask students to draw

conclusions or “what I notice” from the

pictures. (Stead)

Use informational big books to help

students discuss inferential questions

about the text. Use Ideas from page

124 of Jan’s handbook under Red

Questions. The “why” questions are the

best for developing great discussions

for inferences. The teacher should lead

the discussion by asking the questions

and the students will then pick up on

your lead and begin to ask their own

questions to each other. |Little Miss Muffet Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Treasury
