MIP Virtual Server restore steps Shut down existing server and rename the server object in vCenter. Rename VMWare datastore optional.Restore known good backup from DPU and name as the original in vCenter. On the DPU go to the Restore tab – On the restore screen select the date you want to restore from and then select the server (MIP) if available, if the server is not available try a different date. The graphic will show a point in time, on the bottom right corner click “Restore”.On the next screen the restore server name will default to MIP_restore, select an available ESX server from the list. After selecting the ESX Server you will be presented with a database selection, pick the “VMWare-all” database.Click “Restore” again at the bottom right corner. The restore takes about 10 -15 Minutes. Before powering on the restored virtual machine set network cards to not connect at power on.When the server comes up log in with local admin account and remove the server from the domain (add to workgroup) and shut down rather than reboot.Set the network cards to connect at power on again and boot the server, log in with local account. The SAN-LAN network card generally does not retain its settings as the card changes from local area connection 2 to local area connection 3. Set the SAN-LAN address 192.168.100.xxx and subnet. Do not set any gateway or DNS for this card. When you click OK you will be faced with a message about the adapter #2 and #3 sharing an address etc and asks if you want to remove the IP Configuration from the absent adapter -- select “yes” to remove the absent adapter.Rejoin the domain and restart.Log into the server with domain credentials and verify that the iSCSI connection is working. After the server is restored and ready If the SAN file structure is damaged you can move into restoring the latest MIP data. There may be two avenues for this, either the Master/Differential file database restore or the SQL Full database, which ever type is the most current. Further instructions for each listed below. On the DPU navigation pane highlight the MIP SQL server 2005 which will list the backups for this server in the lower window. Sort the backups by date to determine which backups to restore. If the Master/Differential file database is the most current you need to restore “Northwests_School-yearmonthdaytime.nps” and possibly the users database “softwareversion#-NpsSqlSys- yearmonthdaytime.nps” also. After selecting a database click restore at the bottom right corner which will take you to a file browser window.Browse to the backup folder and select the most current file and again click the “Restore” button in the lower right corner and the restore will begin. After restoring the two databases as needed, log into the server and run the administration module for MIP.From the “file” menu select “Restore” and from the dropdown list pick “Northwest_School” Then browse to the backup directory where you previously restored the database files and select the correct database file.Repeat these steps for the NpsSqlSys (Users Database) if needed. To Restore the SQL Full Database. If the SQL Full database is the most recent click to select it and then click restore at the bottom right corner which will take you to a restore window. Select the server then select the MIP\SQLEXPRESS under select SQL Instance by clicking on it. The database name Northwest_School will be listed in the database name field. Now just click restore then accept the warning message and click confirm. ................
