Group 5

In mathematics HL, mathematical methods SL, and further mathematics SL,

candidates will require access to graphic display calculators throughout the course,

including all examinations.

Mathematical studies SL allows the use of a graphic display calculator without

specifically requiring them. These calculators are used to draw the graphs of

functions, to solve equations and sets of equations, to explore sequence behaviour,

and to perform sophisticated statistical tests. They assist problem solving, especially

in internal assessment tasks, using extensive memories to store data for rapid

analysis.

Computer science requires calculators for all papers. Some questions set in

examinations under previous calculator regulations could be answered directly,

using the functions available on the calculators that are permitted now. Such

questions will not be set in future. Graphic, programming or modelling functions

are not required for examinations. The computer science course of study involves

the development and use of an IBO pseudocode, some features of which could be

programmed into the memory.

G11.3 Groups 4 and 5

Calculators must include the following functions:

decimal logarithms

values of xy and x1/y

value of pi

trigonometric functions

inverse trigonometric functions

natural logarithms

values of ex.

Mathematics HL, mathematical methods SL, further mathematics SL

Candidates are required to have access to a graphic display calculator. It is expected

that these calculators will be able to:

draw graphs with any viewing window

solve equations using the inbuilt equation solver functions of the calculator

add and multiply matrices and find inverse matrices

determine a numerical derivative at a point

calculate a numerical integral between given limits.

Mathematical studies SL

Graphic display calculators are allowed, but are not compulsory.

When setting examination papers examiners will assume that candidates have

access to these calculator functions.

G11.4 All subjects

Where calculators are allowed, they may also have the following facilities:

graphic display

programming facility.
